Box Score OGDEN, Utah -- In a match that lasted nearly two and a half hours (2:25), saw four sets decided by three points or less, and three sets decided by two points, it was Weber State that outlasted Sacramento State, 3-2 (27-25, 25-27, 18-25, 25-23, 15-12), on Friday evening at Swenson Gym.
Weber State entered the match in first place in the Big Sky standings with an 8-0 overall record, and had dropped just two sets in four home matches. Sacramento State was more than up for the challenge, limiting the Wildcats to a season-low .159 hitting percentage. In fact, the Hornets weren't far off from sweeping Weber State, dropping the first set by just two points before winning the next two frames.
Sacramento State fell to 5-4 overall and 5-4 in the Big Sky Conference while Weber State is now 9-0 overall and in league. These same two teams will square off again tomorrow at Swenson Gym at 3 p.m. PST.

1st set - Hornets saved four set points before eventually falling, 27-25
2nd set - Hornets trailed, 22-18, but finished on a 9-3 run to win, 27-25
3rd set - With the score tied at 16-16, Sacramento State finished on a 9-2 run to win, 25-18
4th set - Hornets led, 23-22, but Weber State closed on a 3-0 run to win, 25-23. At 23-22, the Wildcats hit a ball that hit the back line and was narrowly in. Another inch of ball travel and the Hornets would have led 24-22.
5th set - Wildcats opened on a 5-0 run. Hornets closed to within two points on three occasions, but could not get closer
Sacramento State had more kills (63-58), assists (60-55) and team blocks (9.0-8.0) while also outhitting Weber State, .211 to .159. Both teams had 11 service errors while the Wildcats had nine aces to the Hornets' six aces. The two teams combined for 174 digs (WSU 89, SAC 85).
Four of the top five Hornets in terms of kills were freshmen, including outside hitter Caitlin Volkmann's team-high and season-best 16 kills and .325 hitting percentage. Numerous Hornet players posted season or career highs, including senior Macey Hayden who registered season bests in kills (14) and digs (18). Libero Caty Cordano had a career-high 31 digs, and freshman Kalani Hayes had a season-high tying 11 kills to go with six blocks.
Freshman Bridgette Smith posted her third straight double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs, setter Ashtin Olin had season highs in assists (32) and digs (13), and fellow setter McKenna Smith posted a career-high 20 assists to go with eight digs. Freshman rightside hitter Karlee Soderberg tied her season highs in kills (6) and blocks (5).
For Weber State, Rylin Adams had 23 kills, including an incredible fifth set in which she had seven kills and a block.
