DAVIDSON TIES FOR FOURTH, MEN'S GOLF IS SIXTH AT THE JOUST

JURUPA VALLEY, Calif. — Ethan Davidson recorded his second-consecutive even-par round of 70 and finished tied for fourth place at The Joust on Tuesday. Sacramento State was  11-over par as a team during the final round and placed sixth among the 14 teams.

Davidson earned his first career top-5 finish with rounds of 75-70-70-215 to finish at 5-over. He started Tuesday by birdying the par-4 10th hole to close out his second round at even par and then opened his third round with a birdie on the par-3 11th. He was 1-over at the midway point of his round following a bogey on No. 12, a birdie on the par-4 15th and a double bogey on the par-4 18th. Davidson later birdied the par-5 fourth and bogeyed the par-3 fifth to stay at 1-over where he remained until again ending with a birdie on No. 10.

Jonathan Tanihana posted the second lowest score for the team during the third round with a 1-over par 71. Tanihana had three birdies and four bogeys during the round. He stood at 3-over through 12 holes but rallied with birdies on the par-4 eighth and par-3 11th along with four pars on his final six holes. Overall, he tied for 58th after shooting 79-81-71-231.

Joe Fowler tied for 28th in his first action of the year with rounds of 77-72-74-223. Fowler was 5-over through eight holes on Tuesday with three bogeys and a double bogey on the par-4 18th. He played the front nine holes at 2-under with birdies on the par-4 first, par-5 seventh and par-3 ninth along with one bogey. He ended with a bogey on No. 10.

Casey Leebrick and Blaze Akana rounded out the lineup with rounds of 76 and 77, respectively. Leebrick had one birdie, five bogeys and a double bogey during Tuesday's action. He shot 77-71-76-224 to tie for 31st overall. Akana had two birdies, seven bogeys and a double bogey en route to finishing 7-over par in the third round. He placed 54th with rounds of 73-79-77-229.

Loyola Marymount swept the three awards at The Joust, winning the standard team title, the All-Five competition and having the individual medalist in Gavin Cohen (71-69-69-209). The Lions totaled 852 finished 25 strokes ahead of Washington State, which was second. Idaho (878), Pacific (882) and Utah Valley (883) completed the top five.

The Hornets will next compete at the Sacramento State Invitational on March 1-2 at Valley Hi Country Club. The three-round event, which is closed to the public this year, will have two rounds on Monday and a single round on Tuesday.
