WOMEN'S SOCCER BATTLES TO 1-1 DRAW FRIDAY AGAINST OREGON

Box Score

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sacramento State found itself in familiar territory Friday night, playing into double-overtime for the third time in as many matches. Despite being outshot by the visiting Oregon Ducks in Friday's matchup, the Hornets held off the Pac-12 program, forcing a 1-1 draw at Hornet Field.

Sacramento State remains unbeaten on the young season and is now 1-0-2 through three matches. Oregon moves to 1-0-1 following their season-opening win against Gonzaga a week ago.

For the second time this season, Sacramento State struck first, scoring the game's first goal in the 15th minute on an absolutely perfectly played corner kick. Aubrey Goodwill struck a ball high into the far side of the box toward a leaping Skylar Littlefield.

Littlefield positioned herself perfectly, outjumping her defender and putting a perfectly placed header on the ball, sending it into the back of the net.

The goal was Littlefield's first of the season and her first since September of the 2018 season. The junior from Kihei, Hawaii, played just nine games in 2019, battling injuries for much of the season.

The lead was short-lived for the Hornets, however, after a questionable call gave the Oregon Ducks a free kick straight away just outside the box. Oregon's Zoe Hasenauer took the set piece for the Ducks, curving one around the Hornets' wall and into Aaliyah Fesili's outstretched hands.

Although the Sacramento State keeper got her hands on it, she wasn't able to corral the ball cleanly and it dribbled across the goal line for the equalizer in the 27th minute.

That was all of the scoring for the rest of the afternoon as the two teams traded blows for another 70-plus minutes before the match ended in a draw.

Friday's match was also a physical one for both squads, with a number of clock stoppages for cramps, injuries, and yellow cards. Sacramento State was cautioned four times in the match, a yellow card for Shylah Soon, Erika Munoz, Ariana Nino, and Littlefield. Oregon received one to midfielder Sofia Vinas.

The two teams combined for a massive 41 total fouls, 21 for Oregon and 20 for the Hornets.

In addition to Littlefield, Goodwill also took two shots, placing one of them on goal. Tiffany Miras and Jordan Goularte each took one shot, both placing their attempt on frame, as well.

Friday's match was Sacramento State's third to go to double overtime this season. Last year, the Hornets played in eight overtime matches, posting a 1-1-6 record.

Sacramento State won't play again for more than week, their next scheduled match a home contest against William Jessup. That match is on Saturday, Feb. 27 with a 1 p.m. kick off.

As always, the Hornets' match will stream live online on Pluto.TV, channel 1052, with links to live video and live stats available online on the Sacramento State women's soccer schedule at HornetSports.com.
