The Hornets and Tigers played a scoreless first half on Saturday at Knoles Field in Stockton, Calif. Pacific dominated possession in the first half, and piled up 13 shots compared to just one for Sacramento State. Despite the disparity, the Hornets defense held the line, shutting out the Tigers for the first 45 minutes. Goalkeeper Aaliyah Fesili made seven saves in the first period.
The second half was more balanced with both sides attempting six shots, but Pacific managed to strike first, scoring on a long-range strike by defender Kelsey Oen. Oen dribbled the ball herself from midfield to roughly 25 yards out before placing the ball perfectly in the top corner, over the outreached arms of Fesili in the 73rd minute.
Time had nearly expired when Sacramento State found the equalizer. With under 90 seconds remaining in regulation, Jasmyne Dunn drove into the Pacific box before sending a soft cross into the middle of the action. Julia Herrera was there to put a foot on the ball and after a slight deflection, send it into the goal to level the score, 1-1.
With the score tied, the Hornets found themselves headed to overtime for the second straight match. Neither team managed many opportunities in the extra periods, with Pacific attempting just one shot in the match's final 20 minutes.
Herrera's goal was her first of the season and the senior captain attempted two shots, tied for the team lead on Saturday alongside freshman Jordan Goularte. Both placed one on goal.
Dunn and Heather Tarabini each placed a shot on frame in the draw while Erika Sosa was responsible for the team's seventh shot of the night.
Fesili made nine total saves, bringing her season total to 16 through two matches.
