FOUR FINISH IN DOUBLE FIGURES, BUT WOMEN'S BASKETBALL DROPS BATTLE AT MONTANA STATE

Box Score

MISSOULA, Mont. - Four different Hornets scored in double figures Saturday night, including a team-leading 15 from freshman Katie Peneueta, but Sacramento State fell at Montana State, 76-69.

With the loss, the Hornets fall to 3-6 overall and 0-2 in Big Sky play. The Bobcats, meanwhile, improve to 4-5 overall and 2-0 in league action.

Four different Hornets finished in double-figures Saturday night, with Katie Peneueta leading the offense with points. The freshman guard from Vancouver, Wash. was playing in just her second game of the season on Saturday and scored a career-best 15 points to go with seven rebounds, also a career-high.

Peneueta did all of her damage from range, going 5-for-7 from beyond the arc against Montana State. She also added two assists and two blocks in the effort.

In two games this season, Peneueta is averaging 12.0 points and 6.5 rebounds, both third best on the team.

Point guard Lianna Tillman was just behind her freshman teammate, scoring 14 points on 7-for-19 shooting. Tillman led all players on Saturday with six assists and played 38 minutes, also a game-high.

Summer Menke and Jessica Rios each finished with 12 points, rounding out the Hornets' quarter of double-digit scorers. Menke went 4-for-12 from the floor and 4-for-6 from the free throw line while also collecting six rebounds. Rios went 4-for-7 from three, taking all of her attempts from beyond the arc.

Despite four finishing in double figures, the Hornets once again got off to a slow start and found themselves playing from behind. Sacramento State scored just 11 points in the first quarter and trailed by 10, 21-11, at the first break.

After the first period, the Hornets outscored Montana State, 58-55. The fourth quarter was once again the best-scoring quarter for the Hornets, who put up 22 points in the final 10 minutes.

Sacramento State had one of its best shooting nights of the season, shooting 46.4% from the floor, second only to a 50.0% performance against Illinois State in November. Sacramento State was 26-for-56 overall and 11-for-26 from three.

The 11 made threes and 42.3 3PTFG% are both second best by the Hornets this season, again second only to Nov. 27's win against Illinois State.

Sacramento State outshot Montana State on Saturday, 46.4% to 42.4%, and made more baskets, 26-25, but despite those advantages, turnovers and fouls proved costly and ultimately allowed Montana State a comfortable nine-point win.

The Hornets turned the ball over 13 times compared to just five for the Bobcats. Those turnovers led to 16 points off turnovers for the Bobcats, while the Hornets had just four.

Sacramento State committed 22 fouls on Saturday, leading to 18 made free throws for the Bobcats, who finished 18-for-26 from the charity stripe. The Hornets, meanwhile, were just 6-for-10 from the free throw line.

Saturday's game at Montana State was the second of two Big Sky games this weekend. Despite the early conference action, the Hornets will return to non-league play with a pair of games at CSU Bakersfield and UC Santa Barbara.

The first of those two games is set for Wednesday, Dec. 8 at CSU Bakersfield. The Hornets and Roadrunners will tip off at 6 p.m. PT and the game will stream live on ESPN+ with live stats at HornetStats.com.
