Box Score SACRAMENTO, CALIF. - Sacramento State stayed hot in the Nest, defeating the visiting Sonoma State Seawolves on Tuesday, 76-53. Four Hornets finished in double figures in the win.
The Hornets improve to 2-1 to start the season while Sonoma State falls to 0-3.
On the same day she was named the Big Sky's Player of the Week, Lianna Tillman led all players with 25 points in Tuesday night's win. The point guard was 11-for-21 from the floor, including 3-for-10 from three. She added a season-high seven assists while pulling in five rebounds and collecting five steals.
Joining Tillman in double-figures was Summer Menke, who finished with 14 on an efficient 5-for-8 shooting. She was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line and finished with six rebounds.
Newcomer Alicja Falkowska turned in her best performance of the year, putting together an excellent 14 minutes and finishing with 12 points and seven rebounds. Both are career highs for the Hawai'i transfer. Falkowska was 3-for-4 from the floor and made six of eight free throws on the night. Five of her seven boards came off the offensive glass and she added a block to her final stat line.
Last among the team's players in double-figures was Isnelle Natabou, who finished with 10 points and four rebounds. She had two steals and a game-high two blocks.
A number of other Hornets saw significant minutes on Tuesday, as well, including 22+ minutes for Nina Barry. Barry was just 1-for-7 from the floor, but continued to add excellent defense, collecting three rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Emily Enochs saw 16+ minutes while Kennedy Lindsey played just over seven. Lindsey scored a pair, going 2-for-2 at the free throw line late in the game.
While the final score saw the Hornets ahead by more than 20, things weren't always so comfortable on Tuesday. A hot streak from beyond the arc for Sonoma State kept the Seawolves in the game early. The visiting squad trailed by just a pair after the first quarter, 19-17, and kept things close before the half, trailing 39-32 at the break.
Sacramento State stuck with its starters as the Seawolves' hot hand from three finally cooled. The Hornets put the game out of reach in the third, outscoring Sonoma State, 21-7, before maintaining that lead in the fourth with a 16-14 quarter.
In total, Sacramento State shot a season-high 45.8% (27-59), though struggled from beyond the arc, going just 6-for-22 (27.3%). Sonoma State shot 37.0% overall, but was a solid 8-for-20 from three (40.0%). The Hornets out-rebounded their opponent for the third straight game, beating the Seawolves in that category, 37-32, and made 16-of-19 free throws, a season-best 84.2%.
The Hornets also tallied a season-high 12 steals, turning those turnovers into 17 points.
With Tuesday night's win, the Hornets have won back-to-back games in The Nest for the first time since the 2018-19 season. On Saturday, Sacramento State has a chance to win three straight, something that hasn't happened since the 2015-16 season.
It's a big-time showdown against Seattle U in The Nest on Saturday, Nov. 20 at 2 p.m. It is also Sacramento State's last home game until late in December.
