SACRAMENTO, Calif. — For the second consecutive meet, the Sacramento State gymnastics team scored a season high 194.225 but finished in second place. On Friday, the Hornets set or tied six personal bests in the meet but could not keep pace with UC Davis which won with a total of 194.875.
Sacramento State never led in the meet, falling behind 48.725-48.450 after the first rotation. The Hornets opened on vault and were led by Alexis Belkoff who scored a season high 9.800 in her final meet at The Nest to place second on the event.
The Aggies added to their lead in the second rotation with a score of 48.925 on vault compared to 48.250 from Sacramento State on bars. Taylor Weber and Jordyn Brent tied for third place overall with each scoring 9.775. Bella Lahmidi tied for sixth with a 9.725.
The back half of the lineup led the Hornets on beam in the third rotation. The trio was started by freshman Peyton Gillen who scored 9.725 to put the team back on track after an early fall. Kendra Braida followed with a career high tying 9.850 to place second in the meet. Amber Koeth anchored the lineup with a 9.750 to finish in fifth place. As a team, the Hornets scored 48.425 while UCD received a 49.025 on floor.
Sacramento State nearly pulled off the comeback in the final rotation with the help of a season best 49.100 on floor and the Aggies forced to count a fall on beam. Lahmidi started with a career high tying 9.725. Anna LeRoy then set her career best with a 9.850 which placed her fourth in the meet. The team closed the rotation with three scores of 9.775 or better. The group was led by Brent and Tara Catour who each scored 9.875 and tied for second place. The score tied a personal best for Brent and set a PR for Catour. Belkoff added a 9.775.
The meet had five all-rounders which were led UC Davis' Logan Clagg who totaled 39.175. Brent placed third at 38.825.
Sacramento State will next travel to San Jose State for a dual meet on Sunday afternoon. The team will then make the short trip to UC Davis for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships on Saturday, March 21, at 2 p.m.
