Box Score MISSOULA, Mont. – Sacramento State played its final regular season road game on Saturday, falling at Montana, 90-45.
The Hornets fell to 8-20 overall with the loss and 6-13 in Big Sky play. Montana, meanwhile, improved to 16-11 overall and 11-7 in league.
With just one week remaining in the regular season, Sacramento State finds itself ninth in the Big Sky Conference standings and just a game back of the number eight team, Portland State. The Hornets and Vikings face each other a final time on Friday, March 6 to close out the regular season.
On Saturday, junior Jakira Wilson scored a season-high eight points, a new personal best in a Hornets uniform. Wilson was 3-for-6 overall and 2-for-2 from the free throw line.
No Hornet finished in double figures on Saturday, as the team's top scorers were all held under their regular season averages. Milia Gibson and Brooke Panfili each finished with seven points for the Hornets while Kennedy Burks collected a team-leading and career-high eight rebounds.
The Hornets did lead briefly on Saturday, scoring the game's first basket. Montana responded with a 13-0 run, though, before closing the first quarter with a 20-7 lead over Sacramento State.
Montana continued to keep its foot on the gas, extending its lead over the Hornets to 38-21 at the half. To make matters worse, senior Camariah King left the game shortly before half time with an injury and did not return.
With the loss of King, Sacramento State is now without all three of its starting seniors. King joined Kennedy Nicholas and Gabi Bade as the team's three injured seniors.
For the Lady Griz, five different players scored in double-figures, led by a game-high 17 points from both Emma Stockholm and Madi Schoening. Stockholm also led with a game-high 14 rebounds.
Sacramento State shot just 17.3% (9-52) overall and was empty from beyond the arc (0-17). Saturday's game snapped a streak of 473 consecutive games in which the Hornets had made a three. The last time Sacramento State went 0-for-three points was Nov. 19, 2004 at San Jose State.
The Hornets have just one game left on the regular season schedule, a home finale against Portland State on Friday, March 6 at 7 p.m. Sacramento State will celebrate Senior Day prior to tip off.
