MENKE COLLECTS SECOND DOUBLE-DOUBLE, BUT WITH SHORT BENCH, WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO NEVADA, 62-53

Box Score

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sacramento State tipped off Sunday afternoon just 24 hours after its previous game and with just six active players on the roster. Despite both of those facts, the Hornets played Nevada close before ultimately coming up short in a 62-53 loss.

With the loss, Sacramento State falls to 0-4 on the season (0-2 Big Sky). Nevada, meanwhile, improves to 3-0 overall.

Due to a devastating number of injuries, the Hornets roster entered this weekend's two-game series with just seven active players. After losing point-guard a minutes-leader Milee Enger in yesterday's game, Sacramento State found itself with just six players ready to suit up Sunday.

All six saw more than 25 minutes of action, including an incredible 39 from junior point guard Summer Menke. Menke, who led the team in minutes, also led the Hornets and the game in both scoring and rebounds. The Scottsdale native led all players with 21 points while grabbing a career-best 13 rebounds. The double-double is Menke's second in the last two games and the second of her career.

After four games, Menke is averaging a double-double for the Hornets, scoring 15.5 points and grabbing 10.0 rebounds per game.

Not to be outdone, junior guard Emily Enochs also piled up an impressive 37 minutes of her own while adding 14 points on 5-of-13 shooting. Enochs also hit three triples, matching Menke for most in the game. Enochs is just behind Menke, averaging 13.8 points per game. It has been an exception start to the year for Enochs, who came into the 2020-21 season averaging just over a point per game.

Behind Menke and Enochs, the rest of Sunday's active Hornets also set career highs for minutes played: Sarah Abney (36 minutes), Jessica Rios (31), Brooke Panfili (29), and Neysa Munguia (27).

Abney had one of her best games of the young season, doing her part to create for her teammates while collecting a team-leading three assists. She also had seven points on an efficient 3-for-5 shooting (1-3 3pt).

As they did in Saturday's contest, the Hornets got off to a slow start, scoring just eight points in the first quarter. While Sacramento State never led, the team did cut the Wolf Pack lead to just four points midway through the third quarter, though was unable to get over that final hump.

Sacramento State shot better from the floor on Sunday than it did Saturday, shooting 37.5% overall and an impressive 42.9% from three. While just one Hornet made a three on Saturday, four different players were good from distance on Sunday.

Much of the difference Sunday came in the paint where the Wolf Pack outscored the Hornets, 34-24, and in second chance points, with the Wolf Pack again leading, 15-6. Nevada also won the rebound battle, 46-38.

After back-to-back weekends with back-to-back games, Sacramento State will get a a bit of a breather before its next game. The Hornets are currently scheduled to host the San Jose State Spartans in the Nest on Friday, Dec. 18.
