SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Caitlin Soliwoda finished first in the all-around and tied for first on beam, Julia Konner shared the top spot on vault and Courtney Soliwoda tied for first on bars to lead the Sacramento State gymnastics team. The Hornets scored 193.475 to finish second in the three-team meet at The Nest. UC Davis finished first with a total of 194.950 and Seattle Pacific was third at 191.725.
The Hornets opened the meet on vault and totaled 48.650. Konner tied for first on the event along with UC Davis' Katy Nogaki after scoring 9.850. Caitlin Soliwoda was third with a 9.825 and Alexis Belkoff added a 9.725 to tie for seventh. Senior Emily Bolton, who had not competed since 2015, was inserted into the lineup as in injury replacement just minutes prior to meet and responded with a 9.550.
Sacramento State moved to the top of the standings following the second rotation. The Hornets scored 48.850 on bars and led UCD by four-tenths. All six Sacramento State gymnasts scored 9.625 or better and the team counted five scores between 9.700 and 9.850. Courtney Soliwoda set her career high with a 9.850. That mark tied her with Alexis Brown of UC Davis for the highest score in the meet. Caitlin Soliwoda and Lauren Rice each received a 9.775 and tied for fourth place.
Things turned for the team during the third rotation as the Hornets had four falls on beam resulting in a total of 47.000 which dropped the team to third place. Konner and Megan Kyle scored 9.525 and 9.550, respectively, to start the order. From there, the next three gymnasts each fell, before Caitlin Soliwoda rebounded with a 9.750. Soliwoda's score was good enough to tie for first place along with Ariana Harger of Seattle Pacific.
Sacramento State bounced back on floor with a total of 48.975. The final four gymnasts in the lineup produced big scores led by Brenner and Caitlin Soliwoda who each scored 9.875. Brenner's score was a career best while Soliwoda tied her high mark. Rice added a season high 9.800 to tie for seventh place and Konner contributed a 9.750.
Caitlin Soliwoda finished first in the all-around with a total of 39.225. She was followed by Alex Brown (38.975) and Harger (38.875).
The meet marked the final home contest of the year for the Hornets. The team honored Konner, Kyle, Anneke Klaver and Bolton following the competition. Sacramento State will compete at Arizona State next weekend before the MSPF Championships at San Jose State on March 18.
