Box Score SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Sacramento State won the Big Sky Conference regular season championship Tuesday, capping off its unblemished conference campaign with a 6-1 victory over Weber State at the Rio Del Oro Racquet Club.
The Hornets (16-9, 11-0) completed their 13th undefeated conference season since joining the Big Sky in 1997 and will be the No. 1 seed in the Big Sky Tournament.
Sacramento State came out strong in doubles play as the duo of junior Daria Savchenko and freshman Ana Loaiza Esquivias won 6-0 at No. 3. The pair have the most wins for the Hornets in doubles play this season with 13.
Hornet juniors Jennifer Ong and Olivia Boija clinched the opening point with their 6-1 win over the Wildcats' Agata Bachanek and Kristi Elmer.
In singles play, Sacramento State continued to roll as Loaiza Esquivias cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 6. Redshirt freshman Anna-Maria Nau defeated Weber State's Dominique Beauvais, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 3.
Hornet sophomore Deimante Bulatovaite extended her winning streak to five after defeating the Wildcats' Elmer in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2. Bulatovaite finished conference play a perfect 11-0 in singles.
Sacramento State's Boija bounced back from a recent string of defeats, by topping Weber State's Devi Hasan, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5 singles. Boija has a 24-4 overall singles record in Big Sky play since joining the Hornets in 2013.
Hornets No. 1, sophomore Alina Soltanici, was tested against Bachanek, but pulled through, taking the match 7-5, 6-2. Soltanici has won five straight singles matches, and eight of the last 10.
Weber State's (11-6, 6-3) lone point came at No. 4, when the Hornets' Ong fell to Romy Dodds-Stephens, 7-5, 6-3.
The Hornets will travel to take on No. 4 California on Friday at 1:30 p.m for their last regular season match. Sacramento State will be the No. 1 seed when they host the Big Sky Tournament on April 24-26 at Gold River Racquet Club.
