GYMNASTICS SETS SEASON HIGH WITH 195.050 AT SAN JOSE STATE QUAD

SAN JOSE, Calif. — The Sacramento State gymnastics team scored a season-high 195.050 and received a career best effort from freshman Lauren Rice in the all-around on Sunday in a four-team meet at The Events Center on the San Jose State campus. Utah State finished first in the meet with a total of 195.750. The Aggies were followed by SJSU (195.675), the Hornets and Seattle Pacific (194.025).

Rice totaled 39.150 in the all-around, surpassing her previous best of 39.050 which came at home against UC Davis on Jan. 23. The freshman opened with a 9.725 but scored at least 9.800 on her final three meets. Her vault score of 9.800 equaled her season best and tied her for eighth place in the meet. Rice also scored 9.800 on bars to tie for fourth place overall before setting a career best on beam with a 9.825 which tied her for second place.

The Hornets opened the meet on floor and scored 48.650. Cassie Benning scored 9.850 to lead the team and tie for fifth place overall. Julia Konner received a 9.750 to finish in 14th place and Rice tied for 15th. Anneke Klaver placed 18th with a 9.675 while Dallas Smith and Jennifer Brenner each brought in a 9.650 to tie for 19th.

Sacramento State followed with a 48.775 on vault which was tied for its second best of the season and just a tenth of its season high which came last week at UC Davis. Konner tied for fourth overall and led the Hornets with a 9.825. Rice tied for eighth and senior Tina Necas scored 9.750 to finish in 11th place. Caitlin Soliwoda scored 9.725 and Megan Kyle 9.675 for the final two scores toward the team total. The pair tied for 12th and 18th, respectively.

On bars, Sacramento State totaled 48.750 — its highest score since Jan. 30 at Oregon State. Benning tied for second overall and was just .025 off the winning score after receiving a 9.825. Rice tied for fourth place and senior Kayla Wonderly scored 9.760 to finish in 10th. Courtney Soliwoda (9.725) and Alyssa Anderson (9.650) added to the team score.

With four top 10 finishers, the Hornets set their season high on beam with a total of 48.650. Konner joined Rice in setting a career high as the duo each received a 9.825 to tie for second place. Wonderly and Anderson scored 9.775 to tie for ninth place. The score matched Wonderly's season best. Benning returned to the beam lineup to score 9.675 and tie for 18th place.

Sacramento State's final regular season meet of the season will take place on Sunday, March 15, against Utah State. The meet will mark the final home appearance for Kim Hughes who's retiring at the end of his 34th season as the team's head coach. The Hornets will also recognize seniors Tina Necas, Dallas Smith and Kayla Wonderly who will be competing at The Nest for the final time.
