GYMNASTICS FINISHES THIRD AT MPSF CHAMPIONSHIPS

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Sophomore Julia Konner finished second in the all-around and had three other top four finishes on individual events to lead Sacramento State at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnastics Championships on Saturday at the Alaska Airlines Center.

The Hornets scored 194.175 to place third in the meet. UC Davis earned the team championships with a total of 195.400 and were followed by San Jose State (195.175). Host Alaska Anchorage (193.700), Seattle Pacific (192.700) and Air Force (191.150) finished fourth through sixth, respectively.

Konner set her career high in the all-around with a four-event total of 39.200. She began the meet with a 9.675 on bars before scoring 9.850 to tie for fourth place on beam. The Bethesda, Md., native tied for fifth on floor with a 9.825 and completed the meet with a 9.850 on vault to tie for second.

Sacramento State scored 48.075 on bars during the team's first rotation. Courtney Soliwoda led the team with a 9.700 which tied for 11th overall. The team also received a 9.625 from Kayla Wonderly who tied for 19th. Alyssa Anderson (9.575) and Lauren Rice (9.500) placed 24th and 26th, respectively.

The Hornets jumped back into the title hunt during the second rotation with a 49.125 on beam to match the squad's season high. Courtney Soliwoda, Konner and Wonderly each scored 9.850 and finished in a six-way tie for fourth place. Soliwoda's total set her career high while Konner matched her best. Rice also tied her career high with a 9.825 to tie for 10th place. The final score toward the team total came from Anderson who scored 9.750.

After a bye, Sacramento State turned its attention to floor where the team scored 48.300. Konner paced the team and was followed by senior Dallas Smith who scored 9.725 to place 17th. Anneke Klaver, who went first in the lineup, tied for 18th with a 9.700. Brenner added a 9.575 and Rice contributed a 9.475.

The Hornets concluded the meet on vault where the totaled 48.675. Konner's 9.850 tied her with a pair of other gymnasts for second place. Senior Tina Necas and Rice each scored 9.800 to tie for 10th place. Necas' score tied her career best and set her season high. Megan Kyle finished 22nd overall with a 9.725 and Courtney Soliwoda added a 9.500 to place 33rd.

Sacramento State will now wait to see which gymnasts qualified for at-large berths to the NCAA Berkeley Regional which will take place on April 4.
