MOSCOW, Idaho - Sacramento State sophomore forward Kayla Collins had two goals and an assist and the Hornets held Eastern Washington to just one late goal in a 3-1 victory in the quarterfinal round of the 2015 Big Sky Soccer Tournament.

Playing its first Big Sky Tournament game since 2010, Sacramento State (8-11-0) has now won five straight contests in the league tournament and is undefeated over its last seven Big Sky Tournament games dating back to 2006. The Hornets avenged a 3-1 loss during the regular season against Eastern Washington (12-4-3), which was held to one goal or fewer just four times during Big Sky regular season action.

The No. 6 seed in the Big Sky Tournament, Sacramento State advances to the semifinals and will meet No. 2 seed Northern Colorado (12-7-1, 7-2-1 Big Sky) at 10 a.m. Friday in Moscow. The Bears earned a bye into the semifinal round by finishing second in the league during the regular season.

Collins tied for the 10th most points in a game in program history and became the first Hornet to tally two goals and an assist since redshirt junior Alyssa Anderson did so in 2012. She also recorded the first brace of the season for the Hornets and has tied for the third most assists in a season in program history with her sixth helper of the year.

It was Collins' assist that gave the Hornets an early 1-0 lead in the ninth minute. With possession to the left of the Eastern Washington goal Collins sent a short cross to Jennifer Lum at the top of the box. The Hornet junior fired into the left side of the Eagle goal to put the Hornets ahead.

The lead held into the intermission as junior Molly McConnell stopped four Eagle shots on goal in the first half. Less than two minutes into the second half, junior Adaurie Dayak chased down a ball just before at moved over the end line and sent a perfect cross along the Eagle goal that found Collins for the finish and a 2-0 lead.

Sacramento State maintain the two goal advantage into the 78th minute when Eastern Washington's Devan Talley sent a shot from far left of the Hornet goal and sliced it off the far post and in.

The Eagles had a couple shots at an equalizer before Collins solidified the win scoring off a counter attack in the 87th minute, blasting a shot off Eagle goalkeeper Mallory Taylor and in the far side.

Sacramento State scored three or more goals for the fifth time this season, having won all five of those games. The Hornets had a 7-6 advantage in shots on goal and had the more dangerous chances though the Eagles had a 19-14 shot advantage overall.

McConnell equaled her career high with five saves and lowered her season goals against average to 1.21 through five starts. Taylor had four saves for the Eagles, who allowed three goals for just the second time this season and the first time against a Big Sky opponent.

The Hornets dropped a heartbreaker to Northern Colorado, 2-1, during the regular season when the Bears won the game with less than one minute remaining in the second overtime. Northern Colorado had the second best goals against average among Big Sky teams during the regular season with seven shutouts.
