Box Score MOSCOW, Idaho – Sacramento State placed eight shots on goal, five of which came in the second half, but could not find the back of the net while Idaho scored a goal in the 39th minute and earned a 1-0 win on Sunday in Moscow.
Idaho (8-4-1, 4-0-0 Big Sky) remained undefeated through the first two weeks of Big Sky conference play while Sacramento State (4-8-0, 2-2-0 Big Sky) saw its Big Sky record draw even at 2-2 with two more road games to come next week.
The Vandals got the only goal of the game in the 39th minute. Sacramento State redshirt freshman goalkeeper Destiny Butcher stopped a shot from Josilyn Daggs but the rebound came to Clara Gomez, who finished from inside the goal box.
Sacramento State had a 5-1 advantage in shots on goal in the second half. The Hornets made a furious charge over the last 15 minutes of regulation time, placing four shots on goal and taking two corner kicks after the 75th minute but were unable to equalize.
Idaho had a slim 17-16 overall edge in shots but the Hornets had an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal. The Vandals had five corners to just three for Sacramento State, but the visitors had the only two corners attempted in the second half in which the Hornets were 8-5 in shots.
Sacramento State junior midfielder Jennifer Lum had a team season-high eight shots in the game with four shots on goal. Sophomore Kayla Collins put two of her three shot attempts on frame as well. No Idaho player had more than one shot on goal, with Olivia Baggerly leading the way with three total shots.
Idaho's Amanda Poertner made all eight saves require of her for the shutout, her sixth of the year, while Butcher had four saves for the Hornets.
Sacramento State has two more Big Sky road games next week, playing at Weber State Friday and Idaho State next Sunday.
