Box Score OGDEN, Utah -- Sacramento State hit a season-high .402 and was able to sweep Weber State in just an hour and 19 minutes by a 25-13, 25-18, 25-19 score in a Big Sky Conference volleyball match Saturday evening at Swenson Gym.
With the win, Sacramento State improved to 16-3 overall, 3-1 in the Big Sky, and 11-2 away from home. The Hornets were coming off a 3-1 loss at Idaho State on Thursday night, but rebounded to beat a Weber State squad (5-10, 1-3) that was playing just its second home match of the season.
In addition, the Hornets improved to 32-10 all-time against the Wildcats, including a 14-5 mark when the two teams play in Ogden. Sacramento State is in the midst of a four-match road trip that will see the team play both Eastern Washington and Idaho next week.
The Hornets dominated in nearly every aspect of the match, posting more kills (48-29), assists (47-26), digs (35-19) and aces (5-4) than Weber State. The Wildcats' only leads of the evening came at 1-0 and 2-1 of the first set. From there, it was all Sacramento State as the Hornets were never really challenged in a match they hit .379, .462 and .375, respectively, in sets 1-3.
The Hornets' .402 hitting percentage eclipsed their previous season best of .393, set at home against Kent State. In fact, the .402 percentage was the 10th best single-match mark in the program's Div. I era (1991-pres.) and best mark since the team hit .429 against Jacksonville on Aug. 25, 2012.
Four different Sacramento State players hit better than .340, including outside hitter Lauren Kissell who had 14 kills and set her career high with a .650 hitting percentage (14-1-20).
Outside hitter Sloan Lovett added 15 kills and a .345 hitting percentage, outside hitter Morgan Stanley had eight kills, three blocks and a .429 hitting percentage and middle blocker Courtney Dietrich had two kills in two attempts to go along with two blocks. Setter Kennedy Kurtz had a robust 47 assists despite the match lasting just three sets. Libero Lexie Skalbeck had match highs in both digs (7) and aces (3), and both Brigitte Murdock and Julia Wright had six digs.
"We were able to run a very crisp offense tonight," Sacramento State head coach Ruben Volta said. "We passed well, dug well, and Kennedy (Kurtz) set a very good match. I was proud of the team for putting forth a strong effort on the road, and hopefully we carry this momentum into two more road matches next week."
Weber State hit just .185 and failed to record double figures in kills in two of the three sets. The Wildcats had just one player finish with more than five kills (eight for Megan Thompson). Thompson hit .538 with just one error in 13 attacks while also recording three blocks.
The Hornets return to action next week when the team travels to Eastern Washington on Thursday and Idaho on Saturday.
