Box Score

POCATELLO, Idaho -- Idaho State's Tressa Lyman had 17 kills, including five in the fourth set, to lead the Bengals to a 3-1 victory (25-15, 25-17, 16-25, 25-21) over Sacramento State in a Big Sky Conference volleyball matchup Thursday evening at Reed Gym.

The Hornets, who entered the match as winners of 14 of their last 15, dropped to 15-3 overall and 2-1 in the Big Sky. Idaho State was selected to win the league in the Big Sky preseason poll, and improved its record to 11-6 overall and 3-0 in the conference. ISU has now won eight straight against the Hornets dating back to 2011.

However, ISU was able to rip off four straight points on a kill from Lyman, a Hornet attack error, an ISU combo block and a Chloe Hirst kill, respectively. Sacramento State had come back from a 19-16 deficit to tie the score at 21-21.

Senior outside hitters Lauren Kissell (19) and Sloan Lovett (13) combined for 32 of the Hornets' 50 kills, but the pair was limited to a combined .153 hitting percentage. Kissell had hit at least .382 in six straight matches, and her .151 hitting percentage tonight was her third lowest tally of the season. The two-time Big Sky Player of the Week had 19 kills with 11 errors in a season-high 53 attacks.

Besides setter Kennedy Kurtz (four kills, .800 hitting%), no Hornet player hit better than .158. Kurtz also had 41 assists, eight digs and a season-high tying four blocks. Morgan Stanley had seven kills and nine digs, Madeline Cannon six kills and match-high six blocks, Courtney Dietrich posted four blocks, and libero Lexie Skalbeck had a match-high 16 digs. For Skalbeck, it marked the ninth straight match with at least 15 digs.

For the third consecutive match, the Hornets played without sophomore Shannon Boyle (back) who remains second on the team in digs (3.04 dps) and third in kills (2.11 kps).
