COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Sacramento State had seven hits, including three doubles, but was unable to push a run across while No. 21 Texas A&M took an early 3-0 lead and added two more runs for a 5-0 win in the rubber match of a three game weekend series.

After earning a 1-0 win in the series opener on Friday, the Hornets dropped the last two games of the series to move to 4-4 overall this season. The Aggies rallied for a walk-off win last night and rode seven shutout innings from sophomore Grayson Long on Sunday to take the series and improve to 6-1.

Long allowed five hits and one walk over this seven innings but kept the Hornets off the scoreboard. Sophomore Nathan Lukes drew a walk to lead off the game and got to third base on a steal and throwing error by Aggie catcher Mitchell Nau to get to third with nobody out. Long then induced a shallow fly out, a foul out to third, and a ground out to strand the runner at third.

Hornet freshman Jared Paderez set down the Aggies in order in the bottom of the first but ran into trouble in the second. Texas A&M opened the inning with a hit by pitch and single but Paderez got two outs without a run scoring. The Aggies then had a single, walk, and a bases-loaded hit by pitch to tally two runs.

The Hornets had their leadoff hitter reach in four other innings but could not bring a run home. The Aggies added a run on a sacrifice fly in the third inning and in the fifth got consecutive two-out RBI hits to extend to a 5-0 lead.

Sacramento State relievers Sterling Humphry, Julian Barron, and Justin Dillon prevented any further runs from scoring and the Hornet offense threatened with a leadoff double by Will Soto and a single by Clay Cederquist in the ninth but was unable to get on the board.

Cederquist finished 2-4 in the game while Soto, Lukes, Ryan Locke, David Del Grande, and Dane Fujinaka also had hits in the game. Paderez allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits and one walk over four innings. First baseman Cole Lankford went 3-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored to lead the Aggie offensive attack.

Sacramento State plays its first of seven games this season at Raley Field on Tuesday, hosting Nevada at 6:35 p.m.
