Box Score

CORVALLIS, Ore. – No. 17 Oregon State won its 14th consecutive home game dating back to last year and improved to 7-0 on the season after building an early lead and running away with a 109-61 victory over Sacramento State on Saturday in Corvallis.

Oregon State led by double-figures for all but the first three and a half minutes of the game, leading by 37 at halftime and going up by as many as 54 points in the second half. Sacramento State (1-6) played the second of four consecutive games against Pac-12 opposition after a slimmer 107-94 loss at No. 10 California on Wednesday.

The 109 points scored by the Beavers was the fourth-highest point total against the Hornets in program history. Oregon State held Sacramento to just 23.0% shooting, the team's lowest field goal percentage in the tenure of head coach Bunky Harkleroad. The Hornets did knock down 11 threes but shot only 22.0% from behind the arc while OSU was 45-of-77 (58.4%) from the field and made 10-of-23 from 3-point range.

Sophomore Hallie Gennett led the Hornets in scoring for the second consecutive game with 19 points and a team-best six rebounds while hitting six 3-pointers. Senior point guard Fantasia Hilliard had 10 points, four rebounds, and four steals but was not credited with an assist for just the third time in her career and first time since her freshman season.

Sacramento State had just seven assists while Oregon State was credited with 40 assists on 45 made field goals. The Hornets did force 22 turnovers with just 11 of their own and had 16 steals. The visitors had 28 offensive rebounds to outscore the Beavers 22-18 in second chance points but OSU had a 64-42 overall edge in rebounding with 10 blocks.

The Oregon State onslaught started early as the Beavers built a 17-6 lead just 3:30 into the game. Several extended runs brought the Beaver lead to 20 at the 11:19 mark of the first half and 30 with 3:34 left in the first period. Sacramento State was held without a point over the final 3:21 of the half as Oregon State held a 60-23 halftime lead.

It was a better second half as the Hornets were outscored by just 11 points, 49-38, and were outrebounded by just three boards, 26-23. Oregon State outscored Sacramento State 24-7 over the first seven minutes of the second half to build a game-high 84-30 lead, but over the final 13 minutes of the contest the Hornets outscored the Beavers 31-25, scoring more points in that stretch than they had through the first 27 minutes of the game.

Six Oregon State players scored in double figures led by 20 points from Devin Hunter, who was 8-of-14 from the field. Her teammate Ruth Hamblin shot 9-of-14 as the Beaver size dominated in the paint on both ends of the floor, though OSU also shot well from beyond the arc led by 5-of-6 three-point shooting from Sydney Wiese.

Oregon State and Sacramento State were meeting in Corvallis for the third consecutive year after a Hornet upset win in overtime in 2012 and a 102-80 Beaver victory last season. Saturday was the first time the Hornets faced a nationally ranked OSU team.

The Hornets move on to face two more Pac-12 opponents and complete their five-game road stretch next weekend in Los Angeles, playing at UCLA at 7 p.m. Friday and at USC at 2 p.m. next Sunday.
