Box Score SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Idaho hit .360 as a team and four different Vandals had at least seven kills and a .340 hitting percentage on the way to a three-set sweep (25-23, 25-22, 25-14) of Sacramento State in a Big Sky Conference volleyball match Saturday evening at Colberg Court.
Idaho, which joined the Big Sky this season, had 45 kills with just nine errors in 100 total attacks. The Vandals hit .429, .250, and .394, respectively, in sets 1-3, and the .360 hitting percentage was the second highest mark against Sacramento State this season.
Idaho (8-10, 4-2) and Sacramento State (5-16, 0-6) were playing for just the fourth time ever. Both teams have won two matches in the series. The Hornets concluded their season-long four-match homestand with an 0-4 record, which included the team dropping five-set affairs to Eastern Washington and Weber State.
The Hornets had their chances in each of the first two sets. In fact, a Madeline Cannon kill drew the Hornets within, 24-23, in the first frame before a kill from Idaho's Ali Forde gave the Vandals the set.
In the second frame, Sacramento State committed five service errors, including serving miscues at 17-19, 19-22, and 21-23 to help Idaho post a 25-22 victory. In the third set, Idaho closed the frame on a 13-5 run to close the set and match.
Idaho's foursome of Alyssa Schultz (10 kills, .400 hit%), Katelyn Peterson (10 kills, .346), Stephanie Hagins (nine kills, .615) and Jessica Hastriter (seven kills, .545) combined for 36 of the team's 45 kills.
For Sacramento State, middle blockers Cannon (seven kills, .600) and Courtney Dietrich (seven kills, .545) combined for 14 kills and a .571 hitting percentage. Junior outside hitter Sloan Lovett had a team-high 10 kills, outside hitter Morgan Stanley added eight kills and eight digs, and rightside hitter Kendall LaVine had six kills, an ace and a .364 hitting percentage.
Hornet setter Kennedy Kurtz added two kills, 34 assists, two aces and a .333 hitting percentage.
Sacramento State hit .235 with 41 kills, 37 digs and 4.0 team blocks. The four team blocks were tied for the fourth lowest output of the season.
The Hornets return to action next week for a road contest Thursday at Northern Colorado before returning to Sacramento for a home match on Saturday afternoon against Portland State at 1 p.m.
