SACRAMENTO -- Sacramento State received a combined 32 kills from Victoria Marthaler (18) and Charlee Lepp (14), and concluded each set on a sizable run to sweep Texas Tech, 3-0 (25-22, 26-24, 27-25), in front of an energetic crowd at the Nest.

Tonight's victory was the first win over a team that was a Big 12 Conference member at the time of the match since a 2006 victory over Texas Tech.

The Hornets closed the first set on an 8-2 run, the second set on a 9-5 run, and the third frame on a 6-2 run. That third set saw the Hornets trail, 21-23, while saving a set point at 23-24. With the score tied at 25-25, Sacramento State received kills from Marthaler and setter Makenna Wiepert to put the match away.

The Hornets improved to 2-0 at three-day, four-team Sacramento State Invitational, which included a five-set victory over Nevada last night. In today's earlier matchup, Saint Mary's defeated Nevada in three sets.

The final day of the tournament is tomorrow, and the Hornets (2-3 overall) will host Saint Mary's at 1:30 p.m. Texas Tech faces Nevada at 11 a.m. Through two days at the tournament, the Hornets are 2-0, followed by Texas Tech (1-1), Saint Mary's (1-1) and Nevada (0-2). Dating back to last season, the Hornets have now won 12 of their last 13 matches at home. 

The Hornets had more kills (50-39), assists (47-37) and aces while hitting .299. That included a .405 hitting percentage in the first set, and .308 in the third set. The Red Raiders did not have a player finish with double figures in kills. There were a total off 22 tie scores over the three sets.

Of Sacramento State's 10 aces, three came from Wiepert, and two each from Marthaler and Keonahi'ilani Solaita. A Skyler Gartin ace ended the first set and completed a 3-0 run to wrap up the frame.

Marthaler led all players with 18 kills to go with four digs. Lepp posted 14 kills with just three errors, good for a .379 hitting percentage. Sacramento State's middles - Nikola Gamlin (8 kills, .353) and Gartin (6 kills, .556) combined for 14 kills and a .423 hitting percentage. Mia Molnar added three kills and a team-best three blocks.

Wiepert finished with 45 assists, three aces and seven digs, and saw her string of four straight double-doubles come to an end. Solaita led the Hornets with 11 digs, which Reese Ampi had eight, and Amy Ito four.
