CORVALLIS, Ore. — Makayla Stambaugh finished first on bars, floor and in the all-around to lead the eighth-ranked Oregon State gymnastics team to a victory over Sacramento State and No. 20 Washington at the Comfort Suites Invitational on Saturday. The Beavers scored 197.275 to easily win while the Huskies (194.775) were just able to edge the Hornets (194.675) for second.
Sacramento State opened the meet on beam and counted five scores between 9.625 and 9.775. Junior Kailey Hansen placed ninth with a team-high 9.775 and Kalliah McCartney was 10th at 9.750.
On floor, the Hornets were again consistent en route to tallying a team score of 48.900. McCartney tied for third after receiving a 9.850. Freshman Cassie Benning was sixth overall with a 9.800.
Sacramento State tied its second highest vault total in school history after totaling 49.050. Hansen tied for fourth overall after receiving a career high 9.875 and Benning also set a career mark with a 9.850 to tie for sixth place.
The Hornets took a small lead lead over Washington into the final rotation but scored 48.200 on bars compared to the Huskies 48.875 on vault. Benning and senior Nicole Meiller led the team with 9.750s to tie for 10th place.
Oregon State won each of the four events with Stambaugh scoring 9.925 on bars and floor and 39.600 in the all-around. Kelsi Blalock won vault with a 9.950 and Chelsea Tang and Melanie Jones each scored 9.900 to finish first on beam.
Sacramento State will have its final two regular season meets of the season in the upcoming week. The Hornets will travel to UC Davis for a three-team meet which also includes Air Force on Friday. The team will then host Air Force on Sunday afternoon.
