2013-14 Season
Played in 12 games…averaged 0.5 points, 0.4 rebounds, 0.6 assists and 0.5 steals in 3.8 minutes per game…finished the year with seven assists and just one turnover…had four points and a steal in seven minutes at UTEP…in the regular season finale, he had two points, an assist and a steal in a win over Montana State…that win clinched the program’s first Big Sky Tournament berth in eight years…had at least one steal in six of the 12 games he appeared…played a season-high 13 minutes in a home win over UC Santa Cruz.
2012-13 Season
Played in nine games, and finished the season with three points, four rebounds, three assists and one steal in 21 minutes…had three points, three rebounds and an assist against UC Merced…had an assist and steal in a season-high six minutes at Portland State.
2011-12 Season
Played in 19 games in his second season with the team…finished with averages of 0.4 points, 0.4 rebounds, 0.4 assists and 0.4 steals per game…played a season-high nine minutes against both Southeast Missouri and Montana…had two points and two steals at Montana on Jan. 21…had a season-high two assists against both Oklahoma and Southeast Missouri…averaged 3.9 minutes per contest.
2010-11 Season
Appeared in 20 games as a true freshman, including two starts…posted averages of 0.9 points, 0.5 rebounds, 0.5 assists and 0.8 steals in 6.8 minutes per game…averaged one steal every nine minutes of play, easily the top mark on the team…started games against both Loyola Marymount and William Jessup…had a season-high four assists in 14 minutes in the season finale at Northern Colorado…averaged 9.7 minutes over the final three games of the season…had five points, two rebounds, one assist and three steals in a season-high 21 minutes at Loyola Marymount.
High School
A 2010 graduate of Hyde Leadership High School in Hamden, Conn…four-year member of the varsity squad and three-year starting point guard…a three-time all-state selection (first team as a senior, honorable mention as a sophomore and junior) and two-time first team all-conference choice, he led the Howling Wolves to a state championship and their first undefeated season in school history (27-0) in 2009-10…that season, the team also finished the year ranked third in the state while Groom averaged 14.1 points, 7.2 assists and 2.1 steals per game…in Hyde’s 70-58 win over Prince Tech in the 2010 state championship game, Groom had six points, 11 assists, five rebounds and five steals in 30 minutes…as a junior, he averaged 13.5 points, 8.0 assists and 2.9 steals per game while leading the team to a state finals appearance…the Howling Wolves won either the league championship or a share of the league title each of his final three years…was also the starting quarterback and safety for Hyde’s football team and led the squad to a state championship and an 11-1 record in 2009…combined between his basketball and football exploits, Groom won two state titles and those teams combined for a 38-1 record during the 2009-10 academic year…started at quarterback each of his final two years and was a first team all-conference selection each season.
Personal
Parents are Keith Groom and Shawn Campbell…a communication studies major who will graduate in the fall of 2014.
