Matt Davey was hired as the head athletic trainer in June of 2022. In this role Davey aims to build a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary sports medicine program that strives to provide the most current and complete care for the student athletes while creating a sustainable, supportive environment for staff athletic trainers.
Prior to Sacramento State, Davey was the associate head athletic trainer at UC Davis for 13 years. He worked with the Aggie football team from 2010-22 as well as overseeing a football staff of four athletic trainers, two team physicians and numerous outside providers. Davey also worked collaboratively with the strength and conditioning staff to initiate and implement an injury prevention program.
Davey was a clinical instruction in the kinesiology department at Humboldt State in the fall semester of 2008 and also was a graduate assistant athletic trainer for the Lumberjacks from August 2006-May 2008. He also was an athletic training intern for the Oakland Raiders in the spring and summer of 2006 and was the head athletic trainer at Davis High School from August 2003-June 2006.
Davey graduated from UC Davis with a bachelor's of science degree in exercise biology in December of 2003. He added his emergency medical technician the following year and earned his master's in kinesiology from Humboldt State in kinesiology with an emphasis in biomechanics in the spring of 2008.
