Charles D. Gibson, Sr., joined the Hornet staff as the Director of Football Operations in June 2026. Gibson previously held the same position at Alabama State during the 2025 season.
Gibson began his professional career in football as the quarterbacks/wide Receivers Coach at Morrow HS in Georgia. He began his association with Alabama State the following year as an offensive assistant. During his time as an offensive assistant, he assisted Offensive Coordinator Mark Orlando with the quarterbacks.
Gibson moved to Beloit College in Wisconsin where he was the quarterbacks/wide receivers coach and the director of football operations from 2020-21. He returned to ASU as the offensive graduate assistant for the 2022 season. That season, Gibson assisted in a quarterback room that saw the Hornets finish in the top five in passing offense and rank second in pass efficiency in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Gibson helped ASU to their best finish and first winning season since 2015.
The next year, Gibson was the wide receivers coach and DFO at Huntington College in Montgomery, Ala., under legendary coach Mike Turk and remained there through the 2024 season. In 2023, Gibson tutored senior WR Tyler England to USA South first team all-conference honors. England was the conference leader in punt return yardage and punt return touchdowns and tied for the conference lead in touchdown catches. In 2024, Gibson mentored Jjnior WR Timothy McReynolds to USA South conference leader in kickoff return and punt return yardage, as well as a conference top 10 ranking in all-purpose yardage.
Gibson earned his bachelor's in special education and teaching from Alabama State in 2020 and added a master's in applied technology in 2023. Gibson and his fiancé, Jahliah, are the parents of one son, Charles, Jr. Gibson is also a proud 2017 initiate of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. through the Gamma Sigma Chapter.
