CAREER NOTES: Eighth in program history with 57 career appearances.

SENIOR (2013): Appeared in 26 games with one start, tied for the fifth most appearances in a season in program history...Posted a 1-1 record with a 3.27 era in 22.0 innings pitched...Allowed eight earned runs with 21 strikeouts, 14 walks, and 28 hits with an opponent batting average of .304...Allowed only four extra-base hits with no home runs...Pitched in two shutouts...Through four scoreless innings allowing only one hit and two walks with five strikeouts and earned the win in his only start of the season vs. Nevada...Also had five strikeouts in 1.2 innings in relief later in the season at Nevada...Had 20 outings in which he did not allow any earned runs.

JUNIOR (2012): Academic All-WAC...Broke the school record for appearances (27) by making 31 in his first season with the Hornets (record has since been broken)...tallied a 4.50 ERA in 34 innings pitched with 16 walks and 35 strikeouts..did not surrender a home run all season...opposing batters hit just .252 against him, the second lowest on the team...pitched a season-high three innings in two games...did not allow a run over six innings in six appearances from March 31 to April 20...also allowed just three runs in 9.2 innings over his final seven appearances...struck out three batters in 1.1 perfect innings in his season-debut against Saint Mary's on Feb. 20...tossed three hitless innings over three appearances in the Hornets' four-game series with New Mexico State...notched two strikeouts in two perfect innings at San Jose State on April 28.

PRIOR TO SACRAMENTO STATE: Attended College of Southern Nevada in the fall of 2009 before transferring to Feather River JC to play baseball in 2010 and 2011...played two seasons under head coach Terry Baumgardner at Feather River where he helped the Golden Eagles to back-to-back conference championships...a first team all-Golden Valley Conference selection in 2010 and a preseason All-American in 2011...posted a 2-0 record in eight starts and nine appearances as a sophomore with a 4.02 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 40.1 innings...tallied a 1.66 ERA and 5-2 record in eight starts and 12 appearances as a freshman at Feather River with 22 strikeouts in 43.1 innings pitched.

HIGH SCHOOL: Played three years of varsity baseball for head coach John Glover at Douglas HS in Minden, Nev...a first team all-Sierra League, first team all-Northern Nevada and second team all-state selection following his senior season in 2009...helped the Tigers to Sierra League championships in 2007 and 2009...threw a no-hitter versus North Valley HS in 2008.

PERSONAL: Parents are Kevin and Brenda Hoelzen...majoring in communication studies - digital media...hopes to work in advertising.
