Biography

CAREER: Drafted in the 13th round (No. 378 overall) of the 2022 Major League Baseball Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

2022: Started 15 games as the Friday night starter for the Hornets on the mound, ending the year with a 6-1 record and a 3.71 ERA… Struck out 66 hitters in 87.1 innings of work, holding opponents to a .241 average… Opened the season with a 6-0 record before taking the loss in the WAC Tournament opener, becoming the first Hornet pitcher to open with that record since Ty Nichols finished with the same mark in 2015… His six wins ranked tied for eighth in the WAC… Also ranked fourth in innings pitched and seventh in ERA… Finished with eight “quality starts” (six innings, three earned runs allowed or fewer) in 15 starts… Hornets were a perfect 14-0 in Saul’s starts in 2022 until the WAC Tournament opener… Struck out a season-high nine over 7.2 shutout innings of work in a no-decision at nationally ranked Long Beach State on Feb. 25, scattering just four hits and walking one… Went the distance and struck out four in a win at Grand Canyon on May 6… Struck out six-or-more in four other starts against Utah Tech (March 11), at Seattle U (March 18), at Utah Valley (April 1), and California Baptist (April 29)… Did not allow a run in three of his 15 starts.

2021: Appeared in 16 games for Sacrament State in his second season, starting 13 of them...Was 204 with an 8.82 ERA...Threw 50.0 innings and struck out 38 while walking 21...Was easily the team's hardest thrower, touching 97 mph regularly throughout the course of the season...Had the best start of his career on May 16 at San Francisco, throwing 8.0 scoreless innings on the road...Allowed just four hits, struck out six, and did not walk a batter in the outing...Threw a season-high 96 pitches in that same outing...Also had a strong showing at home against Texas State, throwing six innings of one-run ball on Feb. 28...Threw more than five innings three times in his 16 games...Struck out four or more five times.

2020: Appeared in five games for the Hornets in his debut season, making two starts...Was 1-1 with an 8.59 ERA in five games...Threw 7.1 innings, including a season-high 3.0 on March 3 vs. Pacific...March 3 was also his first career start...Earned his first career win the same day despite throwing just three innings (designated staff day)...Struck out a season-high four in that game while walking none and not allowing a run...Made his 2020 debut on Feb. 16 against UC Santa Barbara...Allowed seven runs (all earned) on seven hits and three walks in 7.1 total innings...Struck out six.
