Biography

2020-21 Season
Played in four games in his first season with the Hornets…did not play in seven games because of injury…had four points and two rebounds in eight minutes at Southern Utah…converted on both his field goal attempts during the season…also played games at Eastern Washington and California Baptist…a Big Sky all-academic selection, and NABC Honors Court choice for academic excellence.

Prior to Sacramento State

Played his freshman season at Arizona Western College in Yuma, Ariz…redshirted at Nevada during his first collegiate season in 2018-19…played three different positions (small forward, shooting guard and center) for an Arizona Western team that finished 18-14 overall and 11-11 in the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference…started in 23 of the 25 games in which he appeared for the Matadors…averaged 12.4 points, 4.9 rebounds, 0.8 steals and 26.2 minutes per game while shooting 42% from the field…scored in double figures on 16 occasions, including four games with at least 20 points…buried 39 3-pointers, the second most on the team.

High School
A 2018 graduate of Spanish Springs High School in Sparks, Nev., where he played three years of varsity ball…as a senior, he was named the High Desert League Player of the Year after averaging 21.1 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game…shot 54% from the field and 36% from the 3-point line…that senior year, he led the Cougars to their first Northern 4A Region title, and was one of six players selected to the all-North team by the Reno Gazette Journal…powered Spanish Springs to the state tournament where the Cougars nearly upset power Bishop Gorman High School in the semifinals…in that semifinal game, Townsell scored 18 points with eight rebounds and two blocks…a two-time first team all-region selection and a 2018 McDonald’s All-America nominee…as a junior, he averaged 13.8 points and 4.6 rebounds per game while shooting 52% from the field and 40% from the 3-point line…helped the team to High Desert League championships in 2017 and 2018.

Personal
Parents are Tony and Gina Townsell…a business administration major…his uncle, Jo-Jo Townsell, was a wide receiver and kick returner for the New York Jets from 1985-90…played AAU ball for the Las Vegas Prospects and West Coast Elite.
