1. Home Opener, Sweet Home Opener
Sacramento State has won its last four home openers and seven of its previous eight. Over the last four seasons, the Hornets have averaged 43.3 points per game. Last season, the team scored 49 against Mercyhurst in the first home game of the year.
 
2. Come For The Game, Stay For The Party
Following the action, fans will be treated to a fireworks show at Hornet Stadium. The postgame concert series will also return with hip-hop artist NoCap performing on the practice field north of the stadium. Fans will need to present a game ticket to attend the concert.
 
3. Another New Face
Mississippi Valley State is the second of 10 first-time opponents for the Hornets this year. The only teams on this year's schedule Sacramento State has met on the gridiron before are Fresno State and North Dakota State. Mississippi Valley State is a member of the SWAC and is just the fourth HBCU to play the Hornets in school history. The Delta Devils hail from Itta Bena, Miss., and have an enrollment just shy of 2,300 students. That number is smaller than 10 high schools in the Sac-Joaquin Section.
 
4. What's New At Hornet Stadium
There are several new features to Hornet Stadium this season. A new grandstand named the Buzz Zone has been installed in the north end zone as well as The Michelob Ultra Beer Garden where the new Hornet Lager brewed by Urban Roots will be served. Four new concession areas run by Aramark, Chick-fil-A Arden Fair and Super Taco have also been added to increase food options. The south end zone is the new home of the Sky River Casino End Zone as well as five private gameday suites that are available to rent on a game-by-game basis. The Sacramento State student section and band will also move to the East side of the stadium. 
 
5. How To Follow The Action
Hornet fans can listen to ESPN 1320 AM, the Audacy app and the Sirius XM with Jason Ross, Steve McElroy and Danny Sullivan. The game will also be streamed on ESPN+ with Will Iger and Mo Hasan on the call.
