SACRAMENTO -- Sacramento State junior setter Makenna Wiepert has been named Big West Conference Setter of the Week after helping the Hornets to a 1-1 record at the Battle of NorCal in San Jose. The Hornets won at San Jose State, 3-1, before falling to falling to Cal, 3-2.

Sacramento State joined the Big West for the first time this season, and Wiepert becomes the first Hornet to win Big West Setter of the Week accolades. Earlier this season (Sept 7), Victoria Marthaler earned the Big West's offensive player of the week award, and Skyler Gartin the league's defensive player of the week.

Wiepert in two matches last week:
• Averaged 10.44 assists, 3.22 digs, 0.33 blocks and 0.89 kills per set
• Hit .615 with eight kills and no errors in 13 attacks 
• Had 46+ assists in both matches
• In the match vs. Cal, she posted career highs in assists (48), digs (23) and kills (6)
• Also had two blocks at San Jose State
• Her 415 assists this season rank 32nd in the nation
• Has 39+ assists in four straight, and eight of the last nine matches
• Now has 1,214 career assists
• Does not have an error this season in 57 total attacks

Sacramento State (5-6) wrapped up the non-conference portion of the schedule on Saturday at Cal, and will now embark upon Big West Conference play. The Hornets' first-ever Big West match will come on Thursday at home vs. California Baptist at 7 pm., followed by Saturday at home vs. UC Riverside at 1 p.m.
