VOLLEYBALL OPENS TOURNAMENT IN IDAHO WITH LOSS AT BOISE STATE

BOISE, Idaho -- Sacramento State was limited to a season-low .127 hitting percentage, and Boise State controlled the match in a three-set sweep (25-11, 25-21, 25-19) of the Hornets on Thursday evening at ExtraMile Arena.

Today marked the first match of the Boise State Invitational, a three-day tournament that will see the Hornets play Eastern Washington tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. PT and Saint Mary's on Saturday at 10 a.m. PT. Today's loss also snapped a three-match winning streak for Sacramento State (3-4), and marked the first time the Hornets have been swept this season.

The Hornets' largest lead of the evening was one point against a Boise State (4-3) that team that hit .333 while limiting Sacramento State to season lows in hitting percentage, kills (35), assists (34), digs (3) and aces (1), In fact, the Hornets, one of the nation's top serving teams, had posted at least seven aces in every match this season until this evening.

Hornet outside hitter Victoria Marthaler registered her 26th consecutive match with double-figure kills as she finished with a match-high 12, to go along with four digs. Keonahi'ilani Solaita had 10 kills and led all Hornets with a .292 hitting percentage. The sophomore also had six digs. 

Mia Molnar had seven kills and a pair of blocks, Skyler Gartin four kills and three blocks, and Reese Ampi posted a match-high tying nine digs. Sacramento State ran a 6-2 offense, and Makenna Wiepert posted 17 assists and six digs, and Kaylee Piepho 13 assists.

Nikola Gamlin had a kill and two blocks.
