SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento State senior forward Zac Giles was named The Big West Offensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon after helping the Hornets to a pair of solid showings against UC Davis and nationally ranked Grand Canyon.

The weekly honor is the first in Giles' career and the first offensive weekly honor from the league office since Donovan Sessoms earned the award on Oct. 21, 2024. It is only the ninth offensive player of the week award for a Hornet since they joined the conference back in 2012.

Giles had a hand in all three of Sacramento State's goals against the Aggies, drawing the foul that resulted in a penalty and led to the Hornets' first goal of the match in the eighth minute. In the 39th minute, the senior netted his first score of the season for a 2-0 lead before the half, knifing through a pair of defenders before punching one past the UC Davis keeper.

He then had the primary assist on teammate Sean Battistessa's goal in the 68th minute, sending a ball to the top of the six-yard box where Battistessa timed his run perfectly to poke it in for a 3-0 advantage.

It was the first multi-point match for a Sacramento State player since Sessoms (hat trick) and Simon Vaca-Lorenzi (two assists) did so on Oct. 19, 2024, in a 3-1 win against UC Santa Barbara.

Three days later, Giles played all 90 minutes against the No. 21-ranked Lopes, finishing with a team-high two shots and putting one of those on frame in a narrow 1-0 defeat.

After opening the season with two matches at home, Sacramento State opens a run of four straight contests on the road this week, traveling to Moraga, Calif., to take on Saint Mary's on Thursday (Aug. 27) at 5 p.m.
