STANFORD, Calif. -- Stanford scored five times in the first, and four more in the third on the way to a 9-0 victory over Sacramento State on Friday evening at Stanford Softball Stadium.
Tonight's game marked the regular season finale for both teams, and was Senior Night for the Cardinal.
Stanford, currently ranked 15th in the nation, improved to 36-12 and won its 14th straight game. Sacramento State saw its four-game win streak come to a close while falling to 30-18.
The Hornets will now turn their attention to the Big Sky Conference Tournament (Pocatello, Idaho) where the Hornets will play in the first round on Monday vs. Portland State at 10:30 a.m. PT.
In tonight's game, Stanford took advantage of seven walks and two hit-batters to go along with just four hits. In the first inning alone, the Cardinal were walked four times and hit twice while scoring five times on just one hit.
Madi Mendoza,
Lafulafu Malepeai and
Erin Garcia each singled to account for the Hornets' three hits. Mendoza reached base safely in both her plate appearances (walk and a single) while extending her hitting streak to a career-best 10 games.
