PHOENIX, Ariz. -- Redshirt junior Lou Baudouin held off Hanna Koprowska for a pair of 7-5 victories at the No. 2 spot in the lineup to provide the clinching point and the regular season champion Sacramento State women's tennis team will play for its third consecutive Big Sky Conference Tournament crown following a 4-1 win over No. 5 Idaho on Friday morning at the Phoenix Tennis Center in Phoenix, Ariz.
The Hornets won their sixth consecutive contest and improved to 18-5 overall on the year, advancing to face No. 2 Northern Arizona on Saturday (April 25) at 8 a.m. for the league's tournament title. Sacramento State defeated the Lumberjacks, 6-1, at home back on March 15 during the regular season. The Vandals finished their season at 11-11 overall.
For the 11th consecutive dual, the Hornets took an early lead in the match thanks to the doubles point, posting wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots in the lineup to go up 1-0. The tandems of Baudouin and Emilija Pranyte and Reese Walker and Cami Maldonado Gutierrez each won their matches, 6-2.
Switching to singles, Idaho wasted little time in tying the match with a straight set win at the No. 4 spot in the lineup, before Sacramento State railed off three straight victories to take the match.
Pranyte posted a 6-2, 7-5, win over Valentina Rodas at No. 5, followed by a win at No. 3 by Irene Riva, who defeated Noami Schraeder, 6-3, 6-4. That set the stage for Baudouin's clincher — her fourth of the season.
