GAME PREVIEW
• With just six games left in the regular season, Sacramento State (9-15, 5-7) will travel to Flagstaff for a Saturday matchup with Northern Arizona (9-17, 3-10). Tip is 5 p.m. PT.
• The short-handed Hornets are coming off a 95-79 loss on Thursday at Northern Colorado. In that game, Sacramento State had just eight healthy bodies.
• The team played without three straters in
Mikey Williams (17.1 ppg), and forwards
Jeremiah Cherry (15.5 ppg, 8.2 rpg) and
Brandon Gardner (4.1 ppg, 2.8 rpg).
• Eight different Hornets have missed games to injuries this season. Cherry has missed the last 18 games with injury. Williams missed his third game (all in Big Sky play) on Thursday, and is currently the Big Sky's fifth leading scorer with 20.1 ppg in league play.
• Sacramento State is seeking its first road win of the season (0-13). The Hornets have been a much different team at home (9-2). Dating back to last season, the team has dropped 15 straight on the road with the last win coming at Weber State on Feb. 20, 2025.Â
• Sacramento State is 5-1 at home vs. the Big Sky, but 0-6 on the road.
• The team's nine overall wins and five conference victories are already more than last season's team that finished 7-25 and 3-15.
• Part of the reason for the home success is playing in front of big crowds. Sacramento State's average attendance of 2,728 per game is the third best mark in the Big Sky.
• The Hornets will play a Northern Arizona team that fell at home to Portland State (77-68) on Thursday night. The Lumberjacks have split their last six games after opening the conference season with an 0-7 record.
• One of those losses came to the Hornets in Sacramento by an 83-69 score on Jan. 15. That marked the Hornets' first conference win of the season.
• Northern Arizona is 8-6 at home, including a 2-5 mark against Big Sky teams. The two victories came against Northern Colorado (81-77) and Eastern Washington (92-86).
• Sacramento State is 19-47 all-time vs. Northern Arizona, and the win earlier this season snapped a five-game losing streak against the Lumberjacks.
• The Hornets are 6-26 when playing the Lumberjacks on the road, including five straight losses in Flagstaff. The last road win at NAU came on Jan. 17, 2019 (66-64 victory).
• The Hornets are seeking their first season sweep of Northern Arizona since the 2004-05 season. That year, the Hornets won in Sacramento (92-88) and Flagstaff (87-86).
• Since joining the Big Sky prior to the 1996-97 season, that 2004-05 season is the only time the Hornets swept the season series against Northern Arizona.
