• Farber is now a three-time team captain after earning the honor for the first time in 2024
• This is Schroeder's first year as a captain

SCOUTING CAL STATE BAKERSFIELD
• The Roadrunners enter the week with a 1-11-1 overall record and an 0-4 mark in Big West play
• Cal State Bakersfield has lost its last four and is winless in its last eight (0-7-1) dating back to its only win of the year against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Sept. 3
• The 'Runners are 0-7-1 on the road this season and haven't won on the road since a 3-1 victory over UC Riverside on Oct. 19 of last season
• Excluding draws, seven of the team's 13 matches have been decided by two goals or more
• Four players have accounted for the team's five goals this season as Bakersfield has been outscored, 30-6
• Junior forward CJ Walters leads the team with two of those six goals, while sophomore midfielder Jaiden Gore leads the team with 28 shots (10 on frame)
• Sophomore Addyson Evens and senior Allanah Blye have split time in net, with Evans playing the majority (765) of minutes
• Evans sports a 2.12 goals against average and has made 65 saves (.783 save percentage) while facing 172 shot attempts from the opposition

SERIES NOTABLES
• Sacramento State leads the all-time series with Cal State Bakersfield, 8-1-4, but the two haven't played since 2024 in Kern County
• Each of the last four matches between the two programs has ended in a draw: 2021 (1-1), 2022 (2-2), 2023 (1-1), 2024 (1-1)
• Prior to that, the Hornets won six straight from 2013-19
• The Roadrunners' lone win in the series came in 2010, posting a 2-1 victory on a neutral field at the Redhawk Invitational in Seattle, Wash.
• Sacramento State's last win in the series with a 2-0 shutout in Bakersfield in 2019
• The Hornets are unbeaten at home in the series, posting a 3-0-2 record on their home field

ALL TIED UP
• Sacramento State already collected the fourth and fifth draws of its 2026 season last week against UC Riverside and Long Beach State
• The five regular season draws are the most since the 2024 NCAA Tournament team had six draws during the regular season, then added three more en route to setting the school record with nine
• Of those five draws, three have come during Big West play -- the most during conference play since the 2023 and 2024 seasons had three each
• The school record for conference draws is four set in 2017 (3-3-4) and matched in 2019 (5-0-4)

SQUAD GOALS
• Sacramento State has outscored opponents by an 18-16 margin this year, powered by seven different Hornets who have found the back of the net
• The team's 18 goals have already surpassed last year's total (16) and are the most since the 2024 squad found the back of the net 19 times
• With two more scores, the Hornets will have posted their highest goal total since the 2019 squad finished the year with 28 goals scored
• The team's 48 points are also two more than last year's total and just shy of the 2024 team's 56

FIRST THINGS FIRST
• Early leads are nothing new for the Sacramento State women's soccer team which, after first goals by Marely Velazquez Varela and Mia Jackson against UC Riverside and Long Beach State, respectively, last week has now scored first in eight of the team's 12 matches in 2026
• Seven different Hornets have accounted for those eight first goals with only co-captain Ellie Farber twice getting her team on the scoreboard first
• Lexi Schroeder (Pacific), Mandaquit (San Francisco), Tierra Pickell (Nevada), and Candace Ching (Saint Mary's) have accounted for the other scores
• The team's eight first goals are tied for second in The Big West along with Long Beach State and Cal State Fullerton, and trailing only UC Santa Barbara (10)

MAMMA MIA!
• Junior Mia Jackson's three-point night was a big part of the Hornets' 2-2 draw at Long Beach State last week
• It was the fifth three-point night by a Sacramento State player this season and the first since teammate Candace Ching had a goal and an assist against Saint Mary's on Sept. 10
• Her opening goal off a shot by Jules Colchico was her first score since she scored twice in the season opener against Pacific, while her assist was her first as a Hornet
• With the three points, Jackson moved into a tie for second on the team with seven points alongside teammate Ellie Farber

"HARTS" ON FIRE
• After making her collegiate debut at San Jose State back on Sept. 17, junior goalkeeper Hayley Hartsburg has been the next woman up as part of an injury-plagued Hornet goalkeeping corps
• She has posted a team-high 25 saves and a .781 saver percentage over her five starts, including a career-high eight stops in the draw with Long Beach State
• Entering the week, the eight saves were tied for the ninth most by a Big West keeper in a single match

ALL GO, NO (MANDA)QUIT
• Junior Jaety Mandaquit accounted for the Hornets' second goal at Long Beach State last week, netting her second score of the season and the fourth of her career, matching her total from last year

WELCOME TO THE CHING DYNASTY
• Junior Candace Ching continued her storybook 2026 season with an assist on Marely Velazquez Varela's goal against UC Riverside
• The helper gave her at least one point in five of the team's last eight matches and pushed her season assist total to three
• Now with a team-high 13 points, Ching's point total and her team-best five goals this year are the most since Kylee Kim-Bustillos finished with nine scores en route to a 21-point season in 2019
• Her eight career goals are the most of any active Sacramento State player
• Meanwhile, she has put 12 of her 24 shot attempts -- both tops on the team -- on frame

THAT'S FRESH
• With her goal against UC Riverside, Velasquez Varela posted her second goal of the season to go with an assist for five points to rank fourth on the team
• Her five points are the most for a Hornet true freshman since Abigail Lopez (four goals, two assists 10 points) and Danna Restom (three goals) in 2021

CORNERED
• "Nobody puts baby in a corner," but UC Riverside did a great job of putting the Hornets there last week as Sacramento State racked up a season-high 13 corner kicks in a 1-1 draw
• The 13 corners were the most for the program since the Hornets finished with the same number against Eastern Washington on Oct. 17, 2008
• They were also tied for the most by a team in the Big West this year, matching Utah Valley's 13 against New Mexico State on Sept. 6

SHOTS, SHOTS, SHOTS, SHOTS, SHOTS... EVERYBODY
• Sacramento State's 19 shot attempts and the nine shots on goal against the Highlanders marked the second-highest match totals in each category for the team this season
• The Hornets had season highs of 22 shots overall and 15 on frame at Fresno State on Sept. 3
• Sacramento State has put 74 of its 151 shots on goal (.490), entering the week with the highest such percentage in the league, just ahead of Long Beach State (.489)

AMONG THE BEST IN THE BIG WEST
• Ching stands among the top 10 in the league in numerous categories: goals (5th), points (t5th), shots on goal (t10th), and assists (t10th), while ranking just outside the top 10 in overall shots (11th)
• With three goals each, both Jackson and Farber are tied for 10th in the league
• Farber's two game-winning goals are tied for third in the league
• Sacramento State's five goals against Pacific (Aug. 13) are tied for the third-most in a match among Big West schools this year
• The Hornets' 22 shots at Fresno State (Sept. 3) are tied for the eighth-most in the league
• Mia Jackson's four points against Pacific and Ching's four against Southern Utah (Aug. 27) are tied for third on the league's single-match list
• The two goals by Jackson and Ching in those matches are tied for second in the league behind only Long Beach State's Cherrie Cox's hat trick against Fresno State
• Jaety Mandaquit's six shots against UC Irvine (Sept. 23) are the most by a Hornet in a match this year and rank tied for fifth among Big West players
• Alexa Malaspina's eight saves against Saint Mary's (Sept. 10) are tied for ninth on the league's single-match list, while her seven against Fresno State are tied for 15th
