BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — Sacramento State scored the game's first points but could not slow Bowling Green for the remainder of the contest as the Falcons claimed a 38-10 win at Doyt L. Perry Stadium on Saturday.

The win improved Bowling Green to 2-4 overall and 2-0 in Mid-American Conference games. The Hornets dropped to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in league games.

Sacramento State had a strong start as
Boogsie Silvera gathered in a deflected pass for the team's first interception of the year on just the third offensive play of the game. The Hornets then drove down the field but were forced to settle for 33-yard field goal from
Grant Meadors to take a 3-0 lead with 7:04 left in the opening quarter.

The score held until 9:06 of the second quarter when Austyn Dendy capped a 9-play, 73-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown run to put the Falcons on top. BGSU continued to add to its lead with a 33-yard field goal from Travis Kenner and then executed an excellent two-minute drive for a late touchdown. During the series, Bowling Green need just eight plays to go 74 yards and scored on a 9-yard pass where quarterback Jay Kastantin was flushed from the pocket but found Joseph Saffold in the back of the end zone while in the grasp of a Hornet defender with just four seconds left in the half.

The momentum continued for the Falcons in the third quarter when Dendy avoided a would-be tackler in the backfield and then broke free down the left sideline for a 30-yard touchdown. Kastantin called his own number early in the fourth quarter with a 7-yard rush to make it 31 unanswered points. Less than a minute later D'kyah Banks scooped up a fumble and traveled 27 yards for a defensive score to make it 38-3.

The run stopped with a 55-yard pass from
Jackson Sharman to
Matt Coleman with 5:37 left in the game. On the play, Sharman stood in the pocket and took a hit just as he threw the ball down the middle of the field. Coleman was able to come down with in among a group of four players and then jogged into the end zone for his fourth touchdown of the season.

Sacramento State was outgained in the game 355-215. The Hornets finished with 70 rushing yards and 145 through the air.
Isaiah Ene rushed for 46 yards and
Daniel Swinney contributed 46 towards the team rushing total. Sharman completed 13-of-28 passes for 145 yards.

Kastanin was an efficient 11-of-15 for 118 passing yards and also rushed for 50 yards. Dendy amassed a game-high 86 yards on the ground.

The Hornet defense was paced by Silvera who had nine tackles to go along with his interception.
Caleb Reese, who made his first career start at safety, added seven tackles.

Sacramento State returns home to face Ohio on Saturday, Oct. 17. The Homecoming game will begin at 7 p.m. from Hornet Stadium.
