CEDAR CITY, Utah --
Victoria Marthaler had a career-high 19 kills, and Sacramento State dominated from start to finish in a 3-0 road win (25-17, 25-17, 25-20) at Southern Utah on Friday evening at America First Event Center.
The Hornets completed an impressive day in Cedar City with a 2-0 record, which included a five-set win over UC Riverside earlier this afternoon. Sacramento State (2-3) will complete its trek through the state of Utah tomorrow at 1 p.m. PT in St. George against Utah Tech.
Sacramento State was never threatened in tonight's match as Southern Utah's largest lead all evening was 3-1 in the third set. In fact, the Hornets did not trail until the Thunderbirds won the first point of the second set.Â
The Hornets dominated statistically, holding healthy advantages in kills (43-29), hitting percentage (.319-.075), assists (41-27), digs (41-28) and blocks (9-6). The .319 hitting percentage was easily a season best as Sacramento Sate had 43 kills with just 14 errors in 91 swings.Â
Marthaler was incredible, finishing with 19 kills, a .433 hitting percentage and five digs. The sophomore transfer from Weber State has already set her career best in kills on three occasions this season, and has led the Hornets in kills in four of the team's five matches. Her 19 kills were 12 more than any other Hornet, and eight more than any other player from either team.
Greta Davis had seven kills and a .400 hitting percentage, freshman
Kelsey Heffner six kills and a .545 hitting percentage, and
Ashlynn Archer five kills and five blocks. Heffner, a true freshman middle blocker, is now hitting .455 this season. She has done a nice job in for two injured middles -
Karlie Spohn and
Skyler Gartin.

Reese Ampi has registered double digits in digs in every match this year, and finished with a match-best 14. Setter
Kate Doorn had 26 assists, six digs and two solo blocks, and freshman setter
Kaylee Piepho had seven assists and three digs.
Mia Guevara added seven digs, and
Charlee Lepp two kills and three blocks.Â
