FOOTBALL PICKED SIXTH BY COACHES AND MEDIA IN BIG SKY PRESEASON POLLS

FARMINGTON, Utah — Sacramento State was selected to finish sixth by the coaches and media in the 2025 Big Sky Conference Preseason polls which were announced today prior to the start of the annual Big Sky Kickoff.

The Hornets earned 73 points in the coaches poll and were given one of 12 available first-place votes. The coaches tabbed defending champion Montana State as the preseason favorites as the Bobcats totaled 117 points and had seven first-place votes. UC Davis was second (100 points) while Montana (96), Northern Arizona (94) and Idaho (81) completed the top five. Montana had the second most first-place votes with two while UC Davis and NAU joined the Hornets with one.

In the media poll, Sacramento State finished with 282 points. The top five included the same teams as the coaches poll with a slightly different order. MSU again was the top choice with 488 points and 30 of the 42 first-place selections. Montana and UC Davis flip-flopped with the Griz earning 434 points and the Aggies 399. The fourth and fifth place selections also changed with Idaho earned 364 points and NAU 354. The remaining first-place votes were shared between Montana (6), UC Davis (4), Idaho (1) and the Hornets (1).

Sacramento State's 2025 Big Sky eight-game schedule will see the team play three of the top five teams in the polls. Sacramento State will host Montana and Idaho while also playing at UC Davis to close the year. The team will avoid top-ranked Montana State and Northern Arizona as well as Idaho State which was selected to finish in seventh in both polls.

The Hornets begin the season at South Dakota State on Saturday, Aug. 30, and will then play at Nevada the following week. The team's first home game will come against Mercyhurst on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 6 p.m. Season tickets are currently on sale beginning at $22 per game.
