WHITE WALKS IT OFF AS BASEBALL WINS THIRD STRAIGHT

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Senior Tyler White's single past the drawn-in infield scored Jacob Cortez with the winning run in the bottom of the 11th and four Sacramento State pitchers combined on a six-hit shutout as the Hornets walked-off UT Arlington for a 1-0 extra-inning victory on Saturday afternoon at John Smith Field.

Sacramento State won its third-straight game in improving to 13-9 overall and 2-0 in Western Athletic Conference play, clinching at least a series victory heading into Sunday's finale at 1 p.m. The Mavericks, who stranded 12 runners on base for the game — seven of those in scoring position, fell to 6-13 overall and 0-2 in league play.

After stranding the potential go-ahead run in three of the final four innings, the Hornets found a way in the home half of the 11th as Cortez put the ball in play and reached on an error before Jamie Mullin came up with a pinch-hit single to center to set the table.

Michael Perazzo's sacrifice bunt moved both into scoring position to bring up White, who wasted little time in taking the first pitch he saw from UTA reliever Caden Noah (0-1) back up the middle and through the defense, easily scoring Cortez from third for the victory.

It was the Hornets' fourth walk-off win of the season — and the second that ended in a 1-0 score — and White's third game-winning RBI of the year joining his winners against Ball State (Feb. 21) and Pacific (March 7).

Meanwhile, the Sacramento State pitching staff was masterful as starter Tyler Stewart, Carson Latimer, Kade Brown, and Andrew Monson (2-0) combined on the shutout — the team's third of the year. The three shutouts are the most since 2023 when the Hornets blanked St. Thomas (Feb. 25), Fresno State (March 15), and Seattle U (April 21) that season.

Stewart allowed only two hits and struck out four over the first four innings before Latimer took over in the fifth, giving up just one hit and striking out four. Brown entered in the eighth and surrendered only one hit and struck out three over his three innings, giving way to Monson (2-0) in the 11th, who gave up two hits, but struck out a pair to nail down the win.

Noah was charged with the unearned run on two hits, striking out three over his 2.2 innings. Nicholas Robb started and struck out seven over 7.2 shutout innings, allowing just two hits and walking one.

With his single, White extended his hitting streak to six games, the longest active streak by a Hornet after teammate JP Smith had his run snapped on Saturday. Luis Pimentel-Guerrero and Cameron Sewell also had hits on the day for Sacramento State.
