WOMEN’S TENNIS TOPS LMU FOR BEST START SINCE 1992

LOS ANGELES -- The Sacramento State women's tennis team remained undefeated with a dominating victory on Saturday morning, rolling past host Loyola Marymount for a 4-1 victory at the LMU Tennis Center in Los Angeles.

Now standing 5-0 overall on the season, the Hornets have posted their best start in the program's Division I history according to records dating back to the 1991-92 season. Sacramento State had opened both the 2002 and 2008 seasons with four straight victories for the previous best start to a campaign.

Saturday's victory also snapped a two-match skid against the Lions as Sacramento State posted its first win in the series since a 7-0 shutout in Los Angeles in 2015 and improved to 7-3 against LMU all time.

The loss dropped LMU to 2-5 overall on the season.

Opening the day with doubles play, the Hornets cruised to an early 1-0 lead in the match with 6-0 shutout victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots in the lineup. Lou Baudouin and Maddy Ferreros were the first off at No. 2, followed quickly by Weronika Ejsmont and Reese Walker at No. 3.

Loyola Marymount tied up the match at one apiece with a straight set victory at No. 1 singles, but it was all Hornets from that point on.

Walker followed with a 6-3, 6-3, victory over Camilia Samel-Druz at No. 3, followed by reigning Big Sky Conference Player of the Week Emilija Pranyte's win over Fiona Arrese at No. 4 by the scored of, 6-1, 6-4. Baudouin then nailed down her team's victory with her win at No. 2, posting a 6-4, 6-2, win over Isabella Tcherkes-Zade.

With her doubles win, Ejsmont has now had a hand in clinching three doubles points this season for the Hornets — all with different partners. Meanwhile, Baudouin produced her second clinching point in singles, joining her win against Pacific back on Jan. 26.

The Hornets go for their sixth-consecutive victory on Sunday (Feb. 16) at 10 a.m., closing out their trip to Southern California with a dual against Cal State Fullerton.
