MEN’S TENNIS FALLS TO UC DAVIS, 4-1

SACRAMENTO -- Sacramento State opened the match by winning the doubles point, but UC Davis rattled off four straight singles victories to defeat the Hornets, 4-1, on Friday afternoon on campus.

The loss snapped a two-match winning streak as Sacramento State fell to 3-4. The Hornets continue to trot out one of the youngest lineups in the country as the team used four freshmen and a sophomore in the lineup.

The victory improved UC Davis' record to 3-2.

The Hornets opened things by winning the doubles point as the tandems of Henry Lamchinniah/Gur Libal (6-4 at No. 1) and Hayden Rand/Nick Bowles (6-1 at No. 3) were both victorious.

Singles play was close throughout, as four matches went to three sets. A fifth match could have potentially gone to three sets had the contest not been stopped because UC Davis had the necessary four points for victory.

Libal, Bowles, Rand and Miles Whitehead all took their matches to a third set, while Martin Duris, who lost in a first set tiebreaker, 14-12, was leading his second set, 4-3.

Sacramento State does not play again until Monday, Feb. 24, when the Hornets host Saint Mary's at 1 p.m.
