MEN’S TENNIS BLANKS JESSUP, 7-0, IN THE HOME OPENER

SACRAMENTO -- In a match that was completed in just 90 minutes, Sacramento State picked up straight set singles wins in every match, and swept the doubles matches to beat Jessup, 7-0, on Tuesday afternoon on campus.

This afternoon's match marked the home opener as the Hornets improved to 3-3. The team has won two straight matches after opening Big Sky Conference play Sunday with a road win at Portland State.

Of the six players Sacramento State used this afternoon, five were freshmen. In fact, freshmen took up the Nos. 2-6 spots in the lineup. Combined between singles and doubles play, the Hornets dropped just 15 games.

Henry Lamchinniah won his match at No. 1 (6-0, 6-4), Gur Libal at No. 2 (6-1, 6-0), Nick Bowles at No. 3 (6-2, 6-1), Martin Duris at No. 4 (6-1, 6-1), Miles Whitehead at No. 5 (6-2, 6-0) and David Dai (6-1, 6-1). Dai was making his Sacramento State debut. Libal has now won four straight singles contests.

In doubles play, every match ended in 6-0 or 6-1 scores. That includes wins from Lamchinniah/Libal at No. 1, Bowles/Duris at No. 2, and Dai/Whitehead at No. 3.

The Hornets are back in action this Friday when they host UC Davis at 1 p.m.
