1. Â Homecoming Hype
Saturday will be the annual Homecoming game for Sacramento State. The festivities will begin prior to the contest with the Golf Cart Parade in the tailgate lot. Following the game there will be fireworks as well as a postgame concert from Lil Yachty.
Â
2. They're In A Rush
Sacramento State set numerous firsts with their rushing performance last week at Weber State.
Cardell Williams,
Jaquail Smith and
Rodney Hammond, Jr., became the first trio of Hornet backs to each rush for over 100 yards in a game. The team's eight rushing touchdowns were also a school single-game record. Williams set a career high with 139 yards and became only the fifth Sacramento State quarterback to cross the century mark in a game. His yardage total was the third-most by a Hornet QB, trailing only Kevin Thomson (149 vs. Southern Utah, 2017) and Garrett Safron (146 vs. Montana State, 2014). As a team, Sacramento State now ranks seventh in the FCS with 234.7 rushing yards per game. In the team's three victories, the Hornets are averaging 336.0 rushing yards.
Â
3. Nationally Known
The offense wasn't the only part of the team earning national recognition this past week as defensive tackles
Jayland McGlothen and
DeSean Watts each picked up an honor. McGlothen was named the best interior defensive lineman in the FCS in an article on
NCAA.com. Watts became the highest graded defensive tackle against the rush in the FBS and FCS by PFF with a grade of 92.2.
Â
4. Make It Clear
Hornet Stadium has aÂ
clear bag policy in place this season. Bags should not exceed 12" long by 12" high by 6" wide. Small strapless bags not exceeding 4.5" by 6.5" will be allowed.
Â
Several enhancements have been made to help with the entry process into Hornet Stadium which include a line for people without bags and additional screening points. Fans are also encouraged to beat the rush and enter Hornet Stadium at least 15 minutes prior to kickoff.
Â
5. How To Follow The Action
Hornet football returns to KMAX 31 and ESPN+ with Jason Ross and Darren Arbet calling the action. The game can also be heard on ESPN 1320 AM and the Audacy app with Dave Lewis (play-by-play),
Abel Ordaz (analyst) and Danny Sullivan (sideline).
