SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The Sacramento State women's tennis team wrapped up its first week of competition with its first dual match sweep of the year, taking down local rival Pacific by a 7-0 score on Sunday afternoon at the Sacramento State Tennis Complex.

The Hornets surrendered only one point over its first two matches in improving to 2-0 on the year — its best start since opening the 2008 season with four straight wins. The Tigers fell to 0-2 overall on the season following a 6-0 loss to Fresno State on Saturday.

Senior Maddy Ferreros, sophomore Reese Walker, and junior newcomer Palina Saulevich, all finished 2-0 on the day as Sacramento State quickly took the doubles point and then didn't drop a set in singles.

Ferreros and Walker earned the first win of the day with a 6-3 victory at No. 3 doubles before Weronika Ejsmont and Saulevich clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win at No. 1 for the 1-0 lead in the match overall.

Saulevich quickly made it 2-0 in the match with a 6-2, 6-2, win at No. 6, followed by Ferreros' 6-2, 6-3, victory at No. 1 and sophomore Lou Baudouin's straight-set, 6-4, 6-3, clincher at No. 3.

Walker wrapped up her unbeaten day with a 6-0, 7-6 (4), win at No. 2, while sophomore Elena Mercioiu (6-2, 6-2) and freshman Emilija Pranyte (7-5, 6-4) took home wins at No. 5 and No. 4, respectively, to cap off the shutout.

Sacramento State hits the road for the first time this season next weekend, traveling to Fresno State on Sunday (Feb. 2) for an 11 a.m. first serve against the Bulldogs.
