WOMEN’S SOCCER CLIPPED AT EASTERN WASHINGTON

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Host Eastern Washington scored twice in the first 19 minutes and tacked on a score late in the second half on Sunday afternoon, lifting the host Eagles to a 3-0 victory over Sacramento State to close out the first weekend of Big Sky Conference play in Cheney, Wash.

Battling a wind advisory that saw dusty conditions and gusts in excess of 20 miles per hour throughout the match, the Hornets fell to 2-6-3 overall on the season and 0-2 in the Big Sky. EWU improved to 6-4-2 and 1-0-1 in league play.

The Eagles' Isabelle Herting staked her team to a lead they would not relinquish thanks to a first-half brace, scoring her first just 2:33 into the match and adding her second in the 19th minute for a 2-0 lead that would last through the break.

Bella Bunnage then added her first career score in the 77th minute for the final tally.

Eastern Washington held a 14-11 shot advantage and a 6-3 lead in shots on goal. Sacramento State finished with six of the seven corner kicks in the match, but came up empty.

Senior Abigail Lopez led all players with four shots for the match, while Teysha-Ray Spinney-Kuahuia and Danna Restom added a pair apiece. Goalkeeper Izzy Palmatier finished with three stops on the day.

After playing their last four matches on the road, the Hornets come home for their longest homestand of the season, opening a run of four-straight contests on their home turf on Friday (Oct. 4) against Idaho State before hosting Weber State on Sunday (Oct. 6). Kick-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. against the Bengals and 1 p.m. against the Wildcats.
