GAME PREVIEW
• Sacramento State (6-17, 2-8) will play its second game this week when it travels to Pocatello for a Thursday matchup at Idaho State (9-14, 4-6). Tip at Reed Gym is 6 p.m. PT.
• The Hornets are coming off a disappointing 61-45 home loss to Idaho on Monday night.
• Sacamento State had played seven straight games decided by single digits, which made Monday night's outcome so surprising.
• In fact, of the Hornets' 10 Big Sky Conference games, eight have been decided by single digits. Of those 10 games, five were decided by three points or less.
• Sacramento State uses four freshmen in its nine-man rotation. That includes two freshmen and a sophomore in its current starting lineup.
• The Hornets have passed the midway point of the conference season, as Monday marked the first Big Sky opponent Sacramento State has played twice. Every game the rest of the season will come against an opponent the Hornets have already played.
• That includes Idaho State, which just completed a 2-2 road trip. The Bengals had an impressive 10-point win at Weber State, and two-point win at Northern Arizona. The Bengals were a double overtime loss to Northern Colorado from being 3-1 on the trip.
• Idaho State is 5-3 at home, but just 1-3 vs. conference opposition. That one win came by five points against Idaho on Jan. 18.
• The Hornets defeated Idaho State, 66-64, at the Nest on Jan. 13 in a game that saw
Zee Hamoda bury a twisting 10-footer with 0.2 seconds left. The Bengals had scored seven straight points prior to the Zamoda game winner.
• Despite the lead changing hands 16 times, Sacramento State did not trail the final 10:51.
• The Hornets are 28-33 against Idaho State, but have won eight of the last 10 games between the teams. Amazinly, each of the last eight games have been decided by five points or less as these teams always play entertaining games against one another.
• Sacramento State is 12-19 in Pocatello, which includes a 65-61 loss a year ago.
• The Hornets have won four of the last six meetings in Pocatello.
• The Hornets are in the second season of the
David Patrick era. Last year's squad finished 14-18 overall and 7-11 in the Big Sky Conference. The 14 wins were the most by a first-year head coach during the Hornets' Div. I era (1991-pres.), and third most in program history.
• Sacramento State is currently wearing black patches on the left shoulder of their home white jerseys in honor of Robert "Money" Martin who passed away in late November. Martin played for the Hornets from 1985-89, and remains the program's all-time leading scorer with 1,774 career points. That includes a program-record 294 made 3-pointers.
