SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento State offensive lineman Jackson Slater became the first Hornet to be a consensus first team All-American as he was named to the AFCA FCS All-America team, it was announced today. The honor follows Slater being named to the first team of the Associated Press, Stats Perform and FCS Central.
 
A four-year starter, Slater entered the lineup in the fourth week of the 2021 season and did not leave the group for the next 44 games. During his time with the team, Sacramento State won a pair of Big Sky Conference titles and made three NCAA FCS Playoff appearances.
 
The Bellevue, Wash., native became just the fifth player in school history, and the first offensive lineman, to earn three first team all-Big Sky honors. Later this winter, he will take part in the East-West Shrine Bowl in Arlington, Texas.
 
Slater joins running back Charles Roberts (1998), wide receiver DeAndre Carter (2014), linebacker Darnell Sankey (2015), tight end Marshel Martin (2022), safety Marte Mapu (2022) and running back Cameron Skatebo (2022) as the only Sacramento State players to be recognized as an All-America by the AP, Stats Perform (formerly the Sports Network) and the AFCA in the same season. However, Slater is the first to be named to the first team by each organization in the same season.
