FOOTBALL SUFFERS ROAD LOSS AT NO. 2 MONTANA STATE

BOZEMAN, Mont. — Montana State's Scottre Humphrey and Adam Jones each rushed for over 100 yards and quarterback Tommy Mellott added two more rushing touchdowns as the No. 2- ranked Bobcats rolled to a 49-7 victory over a depleted Sacramento State football team on Saturday afternoon.

The victory improved MSU to 10-0 overall for the first time in school history and 6-0 in the Big Sky Conference. The Hornets dropped to 3-7 and 1-5 in league games. Sacramento State was playing without several starters on both sides of the ball because of injury.

Montana State wasted little time getting on the board as Ty McCullough took an end-around and turned it into a 64-yard touchdown rush on the team's third offensive snap of the game.

The bright spot for the Hornet defense came on MSU's next possession when Will Leota forced a fumble which was recovered by Anta'Veon McKenzie. From there, the Bobcats scored touchdowns on their final three drives of the half with the first and third on runs of 14 and 13 yards from Mellott and the middle one on a 5-yard carry from Julius Davis.

Sacramento State had its chances in the first half but a 52-yard field goal attempt missed wide right and a late drive resulted in an interception in the end zone.

Montana State again scored early in the second half with Jones rushing for 78 yards to set up a 3-yard TD from Humphrey. On the next series, Jones broke free for a 57-yard score.

The Hornets scored their first points midway through the third quarter on a 43-yard rush from redshirt freshman Curron Borders for his first career touchdown.

MSU tacked on points in the fourth quarter with a 1-yard rush from Julius Davis for his second score.

The Hornets were able to test some of its young talent late in the game. Quarterbacks Luke Baker and Jordan Barton each had reps as did true freshmen running backs Ardwon Morris and Ajon Bryant.

Sacramento State totaled 255 yards of offense with 136 through the air and 119 rushing yards. Borders was the team's leading rusher with 57 yards while Elijah Tau-Tolliver was limited to 43 yards on 13 carries.

Montana State finished the game with 610 yards of offense with 514 coming on the ground. Jones led the team with 159 yards while Humphrey finished with 129.
