SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State baseball program unveiled its schedule for the upcoming 2025 season on Tuesday, which includes 34 home dates to be played at John Smith Field on campus.
Starting with the season's first pitch on Valentine's Day, the Hornets will play 13 of their first 16 — and 19 of their first 28 games over the first two months of the season — within the friendly confines of their home stadium and they will not leave the state of California in that stretch until their second Western Athletic Conference series at Tarleton State during the last weekend in March.
Sacramento State opens the 2025 campaign at home for the third straight season with a four-game home-and-home series with Bay Area rival San Francisco, playing the Dons at John Smith Field on Feb. 14 and 16, before traveling to Benedetti Diamond on Feb. 15 and 17 to close out the weekend.
The Hornets are then at home for 11 of their next 12, welcoming Ball State for a four-game series from Feb. 20-22 and South Dakota State for four more from Feb. 26-March 1. Pacific then makes the short trip up the highway for a home-and-home three-game series on March 7-9, with Sacramento State hosting the first and third games.
Back-to-back midweek games at home against Nevada (March 10) and at Fresno State (March 11) follow before the Hornets take on Saint Mary's in a weekend series on March 14-16, opening the series in Moraga before hosting the final two contests.
After returning the favor with a midweek game at Pacific, Sacramento State opens its WAC schedule at home for the third consecutive season against UT Arlington (March 21-23) before hosting Fresno State (March 25). That leads into the Hornets' longest road trip of the season, heading to Stephenville, Texas, for a three-game league series at Tarleton State (March 28-30).
Sacramento State is home for only a little while, hosting California in a midweek contest on April 1, before making a return trip to Texas the next weekend for a three-game set at Abilene Christian (April 4-6) followed by the first of three midweek clashes with UC Davis (April 8).
Nine of the Hornets' next 11 come at home as they host conference rivals Seattle U (April 11-13) and California Baptist (April 17-19), as well as non-conference for UC Riverside (April 25-27) around road midweek contests against the Aggies (April 15) and Nevada (April 21).
Following the series against the Highlanders, Sacramento keeps going with a rare Monday appearance at Stanford on April 28 and a home date with UC Davis on April 29.
The final three weeks of the regular season have the Hornets on the road with conference series at Grand Canyon (May 2-4) and Utah Valley (May 9-11) sandwiched around the midweek finale against Nevada (May 6), then hosting Utah Tech on May 15-17 to close out the year.
With the standings solidified at that point, the top eight teams in the league converge on Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, Ariz., for the 2025 University Credit Union WAC Baseball Tournament on May 20-24, with the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament on the line.
NCAA Regionals begin on May 30, followed by the super regional round on June 6, at campus sites around the country. The College World Series begins on June 13 at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Neb.
